Background
Derk Basto grew up on Chad, the home planet of Chadra-Fan. He studied mechanics in order to earn credits for his family, but soon found a passion for it. Interested in creating and maintaining his own ship, Derk would repair speeder bikes for credits while scavenging and tearing apart ships in junkyards during his free time. However, if Derk couldn't find a part he needed, he would "borrow" parts from alien ships that would come in. Soon, the Galactic Empire would take over the system and Derk would be caught stealing from Imperial ships. The annoyance of the Empire would cause Derk to join the Rebel Alliance as an engineer. However, because of the cause of his criminal record, he was assigned to a crew of other criminals. During their time together, Derk grew to trust his crew members and ran their ship's maintenance. During their first mission in the Battle of Turkana, Derk's crew was assigned on a stealth mission to infiltrate and disable Imperial fighters on an Imperial I-class Star Destroyer. The mission was a close success. With the fighters disabled, Derk's crew let the alliance know about their accomplishment and were about to extract. Before the crew could even reach the hanger to steal a ship, the rebels started bombing the star destroyer, killing most of Derk's crew in explosions. Derk desperately tried to communicate to the alliance that they were still on the cruiser, but there was no answer coming from the other side. Derk would desperately make his way to the hanger, hotwire and steal a TIE fighter, and escape further into the Outer Rim.
Motivation
Friendship: Derk's crew in the Rebel Alliance reminded him of family. Now that they are dead and gone, Derk longs to belong to another.
Fame: Derk's affinity for mechanics pushes him to greater heights. He longs to be apart of a legendary crew with an indestructible ship.
Obligations
Betrayal (10): During his time in the Rebel Alliance, Derk was part of a crew of former criminals that infiltrated and disabled Imperial ships during the Battle of Turkana. Before Derk and his team could retreat to safety, the rebels started firing upon them, killing almost all of the infiltration team. Derk narrowly escaped on a TIE Fighter, avoiding both rebel and imperial fighters. Derk wants to find out who issued the order to fire upon him and his friends early. (Derk has discovered that the person that issued the order was Nost Luvago. As of the Battle of Yavin, Luvago has his own cell.)
Description
Derk is a common Chadra-Fan with brown raggedy fur and sharp crooked teeth. His black eyes shine with light and his ears perk up whenever he is hard at work on repairing or sneakily tearing apart machinery. Many of his clothes have scratches and stains which he calls "giving them character", though he's just lazy about cleaning them.
