Background

Born in an Arkanian laboratory, Xan Gerr was supposed to be like all the other Arkanian "offshoots", as they are known. What the geneticists who created him didn't know, was the blood sample given to be mixed with Arkanian blood was that of a Sephi of Thustra force sensitive, failed jedi named Xavron Gerr. While in exile, and down on his luck, Xavron was offered a large sum of credits in exchange for a vial of blood. Desperate to get supplies, he agreed and never gave any thought to it again.

As Xan grew, like all of his bred kind, he was forced to work in the gem mines. Xan had a knack to be able to discover recourses much faster than his peers. With this ability he quickly rose in favor among the mine's operation owners. He was so good in fact, he was given the opportunity to fly a star ship to other home worlds, of many different species, that he may help them discover riches on their planet. This made the mine owners a huge "finder's fee" profit, every time he was successful.

Let it be said, he never cared for the mine owners, as they had enslaved him and his brethren. Secretly, the mine owners also felt his disdain so their trust was only presented on the surface. The risk of letting him travel to make them money was worth the reward. He was a credit making machine.

Per usual, the ship that he was given for travel was nothing short of a piece of junk. Never did he return from a trip with all the same parts he started with. Most often, these other species had to offer "free repairs" as part of his room and board deal, set by the Arkanian mine owners. On this particular trip home, he was forced down into a loosely populated planet on the outer rim. He wasn't sure where he was or how from home he could be. His navigation computer had shut down while he was attempting to restart the ship. Thankfully, the emergency landing procedure self-activated and guided him to the planet surface, for a rough landing.

After hitting the ground, he was wounded and unable to walk on his right leg. He found a piece of metal to use as a make-shift crutch. He hobbled to the door and opened it. Staring him in the eyes was a beastly creature he had never seen before. It had large teeth and a scowl on it's face that screamed, "Dinner!" Just as Xan was prepared to meet his fate, two blue lights ignited. In a flurry of flashes and slashes, the beast's head fell to the ground. A hooded man emerged and quietly said, "If you want to survive a night on this planet, you had better follow me." He cut a hunk of meat off of the creature, threw it over his shoulder and walked off.

Xan quickly hobbled behind the stranger, in follow. The man lead him back to a small cave. The man started a fire and took some of the meat he had just cut from the slayed beast and made dinner. He signaled for Xan to sit down. Over the course of their meal, the man introduced himself as Xavron Gerr. He eluded to the fact that he had some training in the force and was an excellent Ataru swordsman. At this point, he was in a self-imposed exile, after an training mission cost the life of his padawan. He kept the padawan's lightsaber and used it as a reminder of his failure to the boy and the order. He became distant to the force, only having his lightsaber abilities as his ally.

The next morning, a pack of beasts approached the camp. These beasts were of the same shape and likeness of the beast killed the night before. They wanted revenge! Knowing 3 would be much more difficult to deal with than 1, Xavron tossed the padawan's lightsaber to Xan and instructed him to ignite it. Xan was unsure what came over himself but felt completely confident with the foreign weapon in his hand. Knowing he wouldn't be much help injured, he did his best to keep the beasts at bay. The distraction was all Xevron needed to quickly push through the pack, eliminating them one by one.

After the battle, Xan asked Xavron if he could instruct him in the ways of the Ataru form. Xavron struggled to say yes, for fear he may fail again but ultimately decided this could be a way to redeem his previous failure. Over time, the men would become family, with Xan adopting the last name of Gerr. His training was ongoing but he had quickly became almost as proficient as Xavron was in the Ataru form.

Meanwhile, after not arriving back in a timeframe deemed acceptable by the Arkanian mine owners, they put out a galactic warrant on Xan. The reward? A haul of kyber crystals they had exchanged for rare gems. This would mean not only Jedi looking to capture the boy but also Sith would be interested. After all, Xan was a cash cow and he was worth millions to the Arkanian's.

One day, while Xan was preparing the fire for dinner, he heard a ship land on the outskirts of their camp. He continued to prepare the fire while Xavron went out to investigate. He could faintly hear two men talking, Xavron and this "visitor". The visitor had a vague idea of what an Arkanian offshoot looked like, only remembering that they were humanoids with point ears. This description certainly fit Xavron. The visitor said he received a tip from a local encampment that two men, with pointy ears were living in a small cave, outside of town. The visitor asked Xavron to submit a blood sample to see if he was a match for the missing Arkanian. Xavron refused.

Before he knew it, Xavron was bound by the force. The visitor proceeded to take a forced blood sample from Xavron. Upon receiving the instant results, both he and Xavron looked at the screen and he was a 50% match. How could this be? And then it hit him, the blood sample! Xan was born out of Xavron's blood! The visitor instantly came to the same conclusion and while still having Xavron bound, the visitor ignited his lightsaber...

Still a bit away from the ship, Xan heard a sudden commotion. From his vantage point, the visitor was not visible with Xavron's back to him. He watched as Xavron was held levitated in the air, unable to move. He saw Xavron's finger pulled into a machine, then heard it beep. Almost in the same instant, he heard the now familiar sound of a lightsaber ignite. Expecting a blue glow, all that was seen was an orangish colored blade extending through the back of Xavron Gerr.

As Xan stood, ready to react, he heard the voice of Xavron Gerr in his head, instructing him to "Run!" and ran he did. Xan spent the night hiding and thinking about his friend and mentor. Who killed him? Were they Jedi or Sith? Why did they kill him? What did that machine tell this visitor that made him want to do such a thing? In that moment, he swore he would avenge his fallen friend.

The next morning, Xan made his way back to the scene of the murder. The visitor was long gone but a security probe droid had already discovered the lifeless body. Upon discovering Xavron, the probe droid assessed the man was murdered by a lightsaber and had requested the authorities to respond. As Xan strolled into the camp, the authorities immediately recognized him as Xavron's campmate. Assuming this was some sort of domestic dispute and the fact that Xan had a lightsaber on his belt, to them it was an open and shut case. Xan was arrested for the murder of Xavron Gerr. Xan was tripped of his possessions. They also collected Xavron's possessions, including his lightsaber, and placed them into evidence, as well. The body was also collected for burial.

Xan was ushered onto a transport and told he was being incarcerated. While on the transport, Xavron's voice spoke to him again. "Xan, you gave my life purpose until the end. Take what I have shown you and survive. I will be with you, always."

Motivation

(10 ) Unfinished Business - Xan has sworn vengeance against the "Visitor" and vowed to track this person and those associated to him down. He will follow the clues and bring this man to justice.
