Background
Marek never knew his parents. As far as he’s concerned, he was born and raised at the academy. Didn’t necessarily learn much there, however.
Marek liked to spend his time exploring in favor of attending his dueling lessons, and preffered to deepen his ties to the force on his own time. Were it not for his master’s patience and accommodations, Marek would not be recognized as a Jedi, as barely as he may be now.
“Strange,” Knight Garret, Marek’s master would begin. “How amongst your peers, your fellow Jedi, there are jokes that you never even learned how to use a lightsaber. But amongst the rest of the Republic, they marvel whenever they hear tell of a ‘Jedi with a gun’. It makes me wonder who you’d be if you decided to leave the academy.”
Marek never really felt a strong connection to his fellow Jedi. He preferred the company of Republic troops and officers. Particularly, he would be first on the scene to come to the aid of Flechette, a clone commander with an infallible sense of justice.
A strike on a Galactic Federation droid factory is never too big a task for two Jedi and a squad of clone troopers. Unless it’s a trap.
Garret, Flechette, Marek, and five other troopers reached the heart of the factory where a hooded figure and two droidokea were lying in wait.
Garret immediately knew the encounter wouldn’t end well, and commanded the rest to flee, as the figure drew a vibroblade and blaster against the party.
Droids began activating throughout the facility, and only Flechette, Marek, and one other trooper made it to evac.
Flechette, having sustained major damage, trusted his blaster to Marek, “I don’t think there’s anything else alive in this galaxy I trust this to, in case I don’t make it.”
The pilot and Marek managed to get Flechette to a medbay, but he didn’t survive the strain his body took.
Marek hasn’t put that blaster down since.
