Background
Culdimzum Gher-kin (Q for short) - all that follows is because Rich wanted me to find a way to fit in cucumbers for some reason.
Growing up on the polluted world of Duros, Culdimzum had many good prospects. He came from a proud line of military commanders and his family had a prestigious history as space explorers dating back to the first light-speed travelers. Indeed, his great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather had been a test pilot for one of the early hyperdrive units first manufactured on mighty Duros. Culdimzum was himself a very capable pilot and had served as part of colonial militia for a few years whilst doing additional flight training. He had never raised a family, he had always been too busy and possessed the adventurous spirit that captivated many generations of Duros, he did not want to plant roots - instead he sought to explore the stars.
However, any hope of this all ended with the fall of the Trade Federation and the rise of the Galactic Empire. After the decades of economic devastation brought about by the loss of the Federation and it's influence, Duros was one of the first core worlds to fall under Imperial control and despite it being their own homeworld, many Duros fled for fear of Imperial persecution. Those who stayed were entirely under Imperial control and could not claim any real freedom. Culdimzum joined a guerrilla operation dedicated to ending the Imperial occupation as a pilot and commander of an elite squad and operated under the monicker "Q." He had been tasked with gathering intelligence on an imperial science outpost that had been established rather quickly after the occupation on one of Duros' moons. Infiltration had been easy, too easy in fact, and they soon found themselves surrounded by elite stormtroopers using portable stealth field generators. They were captured.
The chief science officer running the show, a human called Conine, was conducting experiments on the unusual vegetation that had managed to survive Duros' polluted atmosphere and was combining the genetic information of different plants and vegetables to see if edible food could be grown even in such a harsh, toxic environment. Conine had a theory that the secret to such things might lie in the digestive enzymes of the Duros species and set about experimenting on Culdimzum and his men almost immediately. After watching each of his comrades succumb to the brutal experimentations of the chief scientist, Q took a chance when he managed to slip his restraints and threw a flask of chemicals at Conine, burning him badly. Conine was not killed, however, and neither was Q - for that would have been far too quick.
Once sufficeintly recovered, Conine sought to splice plant DNA with Q's own Duros genetic makeup. The process was long and incredibly painful but Conine succeeded in converting 2% of Q's genetic material to that of a cucumber, giving his skin a startlingly green, oily sheen and permanent acid reflux. A Rebel Alliance raid on the station proved to be Q's salvation, he was now the only surviving member of his squad and the Duros guerrilla operation had been enitrely ground under the Imperial boot. Conine too, appeared to have escaped in a shuttle to the safety of Duros below. These Rebels seemed to know what they were doing, however, and Q quickly ingratiated himself with his rescuers. The chance to free Duros and repay the suffering of his men on the Imperials was simply too good to pass up. He would also find Conine, and make him reverse this mad process.
