1. Kel discovered his ability while working in the repair yard. He found he was able to focus himself and calm his mind while tinkering and caused a tool to wiggle slightly when it was just out of reach.
2. Kel will often become obessed with his projects in ways that cause his mind and body to suffer. When he hits a wall he will skip meals and other methods of self-care in pursuit of completing his projects, even if the end result is rather mundane.
3. After his grandfather found out his ability to move things with the force, he told him about the Jedi and organized a trip for him to learn more about his ability and his place in the fate of the universe.
4. Botri is Kel's Grandfather. While he has a few memories of living with his parents on Cerea, the bulk of his still relatively short life have been being raised by Botri.

Full story-
While he was born on Cerea, after an accident claimed the lives of his parents, Kel was sent to live off-planet with his Grandfather, Botri. Botri's daughter (Kel's mother) was half Human, half Cerean. She had returned to Cerea to feel closer to the culture and Cerea itself. She conformed well to Cerea's standards and expectations, was married and Kel was born soon after. While he was still young, his parents met with an unfortunate accident that claimed both of their lives. Without a willing guardian on Cerea, he was sent to live with his grandfather on Corellia. He was amazed when he arrived. Botri was a mechanic. His lifestyle and access to technology was a vastly different environment to grow up in than the stoic, low-tech culture of Cerea. He learned much from his grandfather about how to repair droids and small vehicles. Kel often spent his time tinkering and creating small inventions. What Kel didn't know is that while he was tinkering and focusing on his projects, he was reaching a state of meditation very similar to that that the on-world Cereans do, just focused on technology instead. While in this zone, he would however occasionally become obsessed with his projects. Losing large swathes of time, forgetting to eat or take care of himself when a project hit a wall. If not for his Grandfather watching out for him, the projects would surely strain him and his body near to the point of exhaustion. While in the middle of one of these states, he was working on creating wrist-mounted grappeling hook to show off to other kids, he had to hold the pieces together and could not reach the wrench he needed to secure it down. As he was reaching for it he noticed the tool wiggle slightly. Then a bit more. As he became distracted by the movement, he lost focus and the wiggling stopped. Over time he noticed more and more he was able to move small items very short distances and used it to his advantage while working. Eventually his grandfather noticed and told Kel of an old faith that demonstrated the same abilities. Botri talked to a few of his contacts and was able to get a gig as a grunt mechanic on a ship that would in return take Kel to his destination. He arrived and couldn't wait to learn more about his ability, but in the back of his mind, he was also planning his next gadget...
