Background
Ex - Military
Krey once wore a uniform.
It wasn’t a prestigious commission—just one of those corporate security units stationed on fringe mining colonies, paid to act like soldiers and die like fodder. But to Krey, it meant structure, order, and recognition. He liked the respect it gave him. He liked the way people listened when he walked into a room.
Then he fragged it all.
He got caught running contraband on the side—small stuff at first. Spice tucked into ore shipments. Unregistered weapons slipped through docking manifests. But when he cut a deal with a local Pyke broker to smuggle a whole cargo hold of stolen kyrosynth, he underestimated how many eyes were on the shipment—and how many syndicates had claims on it.
The fallout? Pyke enforcers razed the outpost. His unit was slaughtered. Krey was labeled a traitor, court-martialed in absentia, and vanished into the Outer Rim under a false name. No bounty was ever posted—someone wanted him alive. Humiliated. Looking over his shoulder.
That was five years ago.
Now, Krey scrapes by as a self-employed smuggler, drifting from rust-world to salt-port, staying one step ahead of the people he pissed off. He talks fast, flies faster, and never admits what he's really thinking—not that he has to. Gotal are born with electro-sensory cones that make lying to one feel like hiding behind a sheet of glass.
He says he’s “retired.” That he’s done trying to impress anyone.
But every time he gets behind a yoke or slips past a scanner, something in him still wants to be seen. To pull off a job so clean, so daring, that even the people who want him dead would have to respect it.
Motivation
Esteem: Sometimes a Smuggler just wants to be good at what he does and impress those around him. Similar to Fame, but on a more personal scale, an Esteem Motivation makes a Smuggler crave the good opinion of his peers or
the desire of the others. The Smuggler with this Motivation displays bravado in the face of danger, but he also works hard to ensure that his ship and crew are up to the challenging jobs he wants to take.
Obligations
Antagonist: Not all Smugglers are Charmers, and given the contacts a Smuggler makes in his line of work, it’s easy for him to insult the wrong person, group, or even species. This doesn’t always lead to Bounty, however, since not everyone can afford the credits required for an official bounty. In these cases, the Smuggler just lives with the knowledge that certain parties in the galaxy would make his life very difficult if given the chance
