Background
Ara-Kan Karasa was born on Chandrila, though he would never know his family. Taken from them voluntarily by a Jedi who had sensed his powerful presence in the Force, he was given into the care of the great Temple on Coruscant. There, he was given the name Ara-Kan Karasa, using a traditional Jedi format as his birth family had thought it best not to give him the attachment of a familial name.
From the earliest stages on through the years, Ara-Kan seemed to be the model pupil. Outgoing but with cautious discipline, inquisitive but with vigilance as to the dangers thereof. As he expressed skill in a wide variety of Jedi arts, the lightsaber and Force techniques in particular, Ara-Kan was taught the dangers of embracing his gifts with pride. Appreciate them, his mentors advised, but always be wary that such things are a lure for the Dark Side. So it was that he developed a rather modest, subdued disposition regarding his aptitudes.
There eventually arrived the day when Ara-Kan was put forth as a potential student to be selected by a Jedi. So it was that a Miralukan Jedi, Oban Cur, perceived the potential in Karasa and chose him as his Padawan. Cur would go on to teach him in matters of balancing his emotions so as to balance his various talents in turn. Together, they refined his lightsaber form and Force techniques. However, it wasn't all about the Force. Ara-Kan learned from Oban that a great deal of a Jedi's life involved practical matters and skills, diplomacy and knowledge, and he learned of these things as they traveled together.
Ara-Kan proved an able student of Oban Cur, such that he was approved in due time to undertake the Trials. Though all of them were harrowing, perhaps most so was his Trial of Insight, wherein he was sent to Lorrd alongside Ro Aepram - a friend - to investigate rumors of troubles there. The two managed to work out a plot among the troubled Lorridan to enslave the aristocracy of the world, but Aepram would later perish in the course of events. Though unavoidably saddened, Ara-Kan possessed a belief in the Living Force which led him to feel Aepram's destiny was fulfilled and honorable.
Upon returning to Coruscant, Karasa's final trial was the construction of his own lightsaber. Most students would use simpler crystals, but in recognition of the part he played in uncovering the plot on Lorrd, he was instead permitted a Lorridan Gemstone the aristocrats wished him to have. Ara-Kan labored over the construction of his lightsaber with care, constructing a refined looking, superior model with a jade green blade when ignited.
So it was that Ara-Kan was acknowledged by the Council and granted the rank of Knight. However, he would go on to continue serving for some years with Cur due to the instigation and worsening of the Clone Wars. It's thanks to the war that Karasa was forced to put his skills to the test, whether in close combat or space battles, investigations and negotiations. When his duties did not take him afar, Ara-Kan remained on Coruscant to supplement the Temple's depleted staff, providing dueling tutelage. He and Cur would part for good only when the Miraluka, now weary with age, retired from active service.
