Background

The Outside
A character from this background came from a society outside of the galactic norm. This includes isolated planetary systems not yet marked on the maps, prison colonies, or even the rare case of a character growing up in solitude out in the wilderness. The character is probably ill-informed about or completely unaware of the politics, customs, and even technology of the rest of the galaxy He may be superstitious of the strange sights around him or embrace the wonders that he encounters.

This choice works better for some careers than others- a Mechanic from a primitive world stretches credulity, for example-unless the player and GM come up with a good reason for this to happen. Maybe the Mechanic character was the sole survivor of a downed ship on a backwater planet and learned his skills from tinkering with the ship’s equipment.

Of course, the player must come up with a good reason regarding how the character managed to leave his isolated or primitive upbringing. Perhaps his character was brought back to civilization by an explorer or slipped on board a trade vessel that landed on his planet.

Previous employer success has gone down since I left. Wants me back to be successful again. I grew up serving under a skilled artistan who paid a high bidding for me because my race is a rarity.

Motivation

Wanderlust.

Obligations

Family – This character has deep ties with his family which require a great deal of time and attention. This may include providing financial assistance (how much is determined by the Obligation), a family business, or protecting his family as some sort of secret witness trouble.

I feel a huge sense of responsibility to take care of Jaxx, my brother, the only other Lepi I know of in existence who regularly manipulates me for money to feed his gambling addition. I have been unable to live my own life or find love because of Jaxx.

Due to the compass found next to me as a baby, I have always had a longing for travel or obligation.

Betrayal- I left my previous employer, INSERT X NAME, and he feels betrayed. I feel conflicted because, he wasn't a bad man, but I was unhappy and I needed to go on a grand exploration. INSERT X NAME keeps searching for me. I also left with my "pension," which had always promised to disperse to me after X number of years.
