Background
Ulaa was adopted by the Jedi order while still a few mere years of age, placed into their care on Coruscant. The Twi'lek child learned quickly along with her fellow younglings, displaying great aptitude in the beginnings of her education and acceptance of the Jedi teachings, and a mild temperament compared to her more energetic peers.
It was this mild-mannered and unassuming nature that brought her to the attention of the Jedi knight Sato Tamm, who was looking for a youngling to eventually take on as a Padawan on her long journey into the Unknown Reaches. Despite the youngling not yet being of age to begin training as a Padawan, the Jedi in charge of her youngling clan agreed to let her go. A dark premonition lead them to the decision that with the looming threat still unknown, perhaps sending a knight and padawan away to hide or, hopefully, find aid would be a prudent course of action.
At six years of age, and no real understanding of why she was going, Ulaa was sent off with the Jedi Knight Sato Tamm off into the Unknown Reaches aboard the Red Ensign. Here her education and training continued much as it did on Coruscant, but now simply without the rest of her youngling clan, and with a greatly reduced amount of training equipment and the amenities of Coruscant. Ulaa was still an eager learner, Knight Tamm's vastly different style of teaching never bothering the young child, who took to it like a duck to water.
Sato Tamm focused her training more on her education and, when able, on how to survive out in the wilderness. She was often taken on long hikes through the jungles, forests, deserts, mountains -- whatever terrain was near the landing sites of the untold number of unexplored and uninhabited planets they found. Sato Tamm taught Ulaa how to hunt, track, and survive in the wilderness, intent on ensuring her padawan would be able to take care of herself if the time came that the darkness that was engulfing the galaxy when they left finally caught up to them.
As she grew older, Ulaa was rapidly given more responsibilities as she came into her own as a Padawan. At a young age, she was accompanying expeditions to meet primitive tribes, isolated communities and strange alien species, negotiating trades, requests for passage through ancestral lands of the locals to visit places strong in the force, and on one occasion petitioning for the release of some of the Red Ensign's crew that were taken hostage by a particularly ornery group of pirates. She was also one of the expeditionary team's hunters and foragers, helping resupply the Red Ensign with food when particularly desperate.
By sixteen years of age, as the Red Ensign began its return to the Republic, Ulaa was a disciplined, competent Padawan -- if untested on the battlefield. She has never had to destroy a droid on the battlefield, or kill a pirate in a space battle. Days spent training, learning, and preparing for this day when they returned home, a galaxy they prayed they still recognized.
Motivation
Morality
Curiosity (Strength)
Working as a scout and hunter when not training as a padawan, Ulaa has found a vast fondness in discovering the unknown, whether it be ruins, an ancient forest or a book. Ulaa's thirst for knowledge in any of its forms is unquenchable, it is her reason for being.
Obsession (Weakness)
This same desire for knowledge easily turns dangerous for Ulaa. Being unable to satisfy her curiosity can eat away at her, becoming her sole focus until she gets a crack at it. If it's a strange locale they are flying over in a ship, she needs to go down there to see it for herself. Three ruffians making a clandestine deal in an alley, there is an irresistible urge to find out what is being bartered for. If her master says that she is forbidden to read an ancient tome, she will be sneaking into its vault at the earliest opportunity.
