Background
Desiree "Desi" Havero was born twenty-five years ago on the planet of Nar Shaddaa, deep in Hutt Space. Her father, Aron Havero, was a low-level lieutenant in a crime syndicate known as "Aurora", a particularly nasty organization that specialized in drugs, brothels, and assassinations. Desi never knew her mother and her father never brought the woman up, so she grew up mostly not caring about the faceless woman that gave birth to her. She idolized her father, however, and was fascinated and enthralled from an early age with his "work" and his work "friends".
Perhaps it was that fascination that led to the early realization of her natural talent with a blaster rifle, but by the time she was sixteen, she had earned a reputation among her father's "friends" for being a crackshot and pretty sneaky when she needed to be. The higher-ups started to take notice after enough of those friends started talking about it in the right company. Aron recognized a chance to rise in the ranks of Aurora and subtly started encouraging Desi to start working with him. She was thrilled and leaped wholeheartedly into a destructive career.
By the time she was eighteen years old, Desi had already begun a life as an Aurora assassin. She and her rifle "Nyssa" were something of a legend among Aurora. Her ability to hack her way into finding her mark and then taking them out, many times without anyone ever knowing she was there, made her invaluable to her bosses. It didn't seem to affect her all that much, which actually seemed to concern her father more than comfort him. Under the surface, however, she was struggling with it more than it appeared. By the time she was twenty, she was frequently using glitterstim and drinking more than her fair share when not on the job. Aurora started sending her out on more and more dangerous hits. Although she always seemed to pull them off, her father grew less and less certain of the path he had pushed his daughter into.
When she was twenty-three, Desi was given another routine hit, this time on a Wookie named Melbekk. This time, however, the Wookie seemed ready for her. Instead of an assassination, Desi received a rather thorough beat-down. She woke up locked in a cargo hold to an enforced cold-turkey "detox" off the alcohol and glitterstim. When that ordeal was finally over, Melbekk sat her down and explained to her that she was better than the life she was living, and that he could get her away from Nar Shaddaa and show her a better way.
Weary of the senseless and brutal killings and quietly yearning for a better life, Desi agreed.
"Mel" began to teach her about his own particular code of honor, adapted from his own experiences and several other systems. First, they only took jobs against opponents who deserved their sentence. Second, they would never harm an innocent. And third, they never killed a helpless target. Slowly, she began to adapt to her new life and new code, learning to live like an actual decent being for the first time in her life. It was several months later that Mel told her that her father, an old friend, had tipped him off to the hit and asked him to help get Desi clear of Aurora and help her start a better life before hers was ruined forever.
For two years the pair have worked whatever bounties fit into their code (or as Desi calls it, the "Mel Code"), but recently they've found a new gig that might actually get them out of the bounty world and into a somewhat more stable life.
Motivation
Desi is motivated to redeem herself from her past life through living a better one now. (Redemption)
Obligations
Desi now lives by the code of honor taught to her by Melbakk: only kill opponents who deserve their sentence, never harm an innocent, and never kill a helpless target. (Oath 15)
Description
Standing at a slightly less-than-average height of 5'4", Desi has the appearance of a quirky young woman. Often founding laughing or cracking jokes, usually sporting very colorful and interesting clothes combinations, and always sporting vividly (and frequently changing) colored hair, very few people tend to see her as any kind of a threat.
She is quick to make a joke, flirt with a passer-by, or engage a crew member in anything from banter to in-depth conversation. Therefore, it's often a shock to see her switch from her sunny-self to what Mel refers to as her "business face" when Nyssa is called into service.
