Background
(TLDR - I was enslaved, sold to a Tandoshan, and ultimately escaped using my Wookie engineering skills. Now I'm obsessed with foraging for equipment so that I might repair/ modify objects or invent new tech.)
My family was attacked by imperial slavers when I was just a cub. My parents and brother were killed immediately, while my sister and I, rendered unconscious in the initial blasts, were captured and enslaved. My sister was sold away within a week, and I haven't heard a word of whether or not she still lives. From time to time I dreamed of her, but long ago I lost hope of ever seeing her again in person. After a while I would only pray she were dead, as that is far luckier than suffering the fate of life as a slave.
For my part, I was not sold until I grew large enough for manual work. A modest Tandoshan business owner who was on the hunt for easy credits by means of short trade routes within the system had bought me to help dig foundations for space elevators in the sandy soil of the planet. After years of toiling in the monotony of the ever- shifting sand, I decided there had to be better way to spend my life. Using bits and pieces of electronics and machinery around our drill site, I developed a prototype of a laser drill that would create molten lava which would turn solid upon cooling - leaving behind a solid foundation for the elevators in a matter of days, what once took weeks or even months if the company's "employees" had suffered more attrition than could be replaced. And though I never saw this money for myself, I had caught the eye of my owner. She gave me access to a workspace in which I could experiment with machinery, electronics, computers... anything I could get my hands on. As long as my projects were helping her company run more efficiently, she was happy and gave me as much equipment as she could spare. She was just a local shipping company, and so she didn't have much. But she provided me with resources so I could learn all I could about engineering. Pretty soon I was modifying shipping transports, gadgets, security, weapons.. and her company was growing big enough where her company could invest in more advanced starships that could safely travel to other systems. Eventually she moved me to their new headquarters in a space station that sat between an elevator and its counterweight. I was able to learn how to repair ships from here as well, and she gave me a lot of freedom to learn on my own. Even projects that had nothing to do with the company. In fact she encouraged me to pursue my learning so that I might enjoy, what she referred to as "a rich, fulfilling life."
Despite this fair treatment, I was a slave - a Wookie slave - and she a Tandoshan. If it weren't for Tandoshans buying citizens to be sold into slavery, my family would never have been killed. So when I finally dreamed the most vivid dream of my life - a nightmare of the torture and death of my sister, that I felt was happening at the very moment of my night terror - I decided she represented all the oppressive forces in the empire. And thanks to my unique engineering education that she had provided, I saw an opportunity for revenge. I sabotaged her engines so that they would overheat in the middle of her next long trip, and altered the ship's computers so that it would fail to identify a problem preventing it from diagnosing any temperature problems or initiating self-repair systems. Because she always wanted me around for these journeys in case something went wrong, I knew I would die too. But with no members of my family left, I was without a clan or even a friend, and that is no life for a Wookie.
When the night of the ship's demise came upon us, I was releasing escape pods quietly into the night. No one was going to survive this mayhem if I could help it. She called me up to the main deck. I knew this meant that they had learned of the impending disaster, but I also knew that it was too late for the crew to do anything to stop it. As I walked onto deck, I was amazed to see order instead of chaos. Alanda calmly instructed the crew to take care of this, resolve that. I could see that she knew of the doom to come, but she acted with such composure, that the crew believed it was just any other day. I was struck by her strength and leadership. She would take on the pain of everyone aboard this ship if she could. And so she hid it from them. She beckoned me to follow her to her quarters and asked me if I could take a look at the engines. The computers say everything is fine but the information from her most trusted mechanic told her a different story. I broke. I told her about my anger and about my decision to exact revenge on her. I told her about my sister and how the fate of Alanda was not half of what she suffered. But that I had made sure to draw it out long enough to make it as dire as I could.
I expected fury, tears. Instead, Alanda, my boss, my owner, looked upon me with understanding and tenderness. She walked over to one of her closets and pulled out some documents. She threw them into a small crate on top of which she dropped the necklace I'd seen her wear in recent years. A chain with a simple pendant of a spent kyber crystal. The crystal I'd used in my prototype. As I watched in confusion a hologram started up. It was Alanda speaking
"Please let it be known, that I, Mu'crundry Alanda, being of sound mind and spirit, pronounce the freedom of the Wookie Tallkotte. He was my slave, my employee, my confidant, and my friend." The papers in the crate documented the emancipation. I was shocked. And began to cry forgetting completely where I was. I had doomed her, doomed everyone I knew. I looked up at her to realize she was right in front of me. I started to say, I'm sorry, but before I could get out a word she knocked the wind out of me with a shove that forced me back by surprise more than force. I stumbled into a closet I hadn't even seen when I'd entered the room and the door slipped shut immediately. Instruments whirred to life and lights blinked on, when it dawned on me: I was on a solo-pod meant for her escape. She'd freed me before she even knew I was a threat to her and then sacrificed herself for me. As the escape pod streaked away from harm, I watched the ship as it imploded in on itself in a noiseless reaction unsure if I should feel satisfaction or guilt.
Motivation
4 - Cause
Ambition, I rolled a 34 - Non-human rights. This is alright for me, though I'm not sure I'd include Tandoshan rights...
Or it could make sense that my character's cause would be Emancipation.

Obligation 10
Obsession
Upon escaping the fate of my planned murder-suicide, I've become obsessed with the only thing I've ever been good at: working on all the gizmos and gadgets in the galaxy. And if I can't find a gadget or perhaps no object can accomplish what I want, I simply create it myself. Whenever I am outside of a workshop I keep a look out for scraps, machines, electronics, whatever I can salvage to use for parts, equipment, etc. I had an automated transport cart that would help lug my findings back home, but I even scavenged that when a droid needed help repairing itself. My obsession with developing tech means I will take on jobs building gadgets prohibited by the empire, if for no other reason than I want to find out if I can.
