Deq Solati learned about the Force from his older sister, a Jedi who managed to escape the early purges of Order 66, but who later went missing after the Imperial assault on Mimban. Because the Jedi Order had been disbanded and outlawed, Jesa Solati - who had only achieved the formal rank of Jedi Knight - couldn’t officially take on Deq as a Padawan, but she taught him all she knew. Deq became proficient enough in using the Force that had he been a member of the order, he could have been a Knight like his sister. Though he became rather adept at using a lightsaber, Deq never got a chance to build his own before his sister disappeared. From childhood - born on Glee Anselm but raised mostly on Saleucami, where his family had settled as reek ranchers - he’d learned to hunt with blasters, and has found them much more to his taste than weapons used for hand-to-hand combat. Deq is also a fair pilot, having learned as a youth how to fly while ferrying reeks and other cargo from the surface of Saleucami to container ships and freighters in orbit.
Having grown up on Saleucami, Deq is familiar not only with his own Nautolan culture, but with the cultural norms the planet’s alien inhabitants - mostly human or Twi’lek colonists - brought with them. In particular, he’s come to enjoy Twi’lek cuisine more than his own native foods. He’s skilled enough with technology for his own purposes - like maintaining his blasters and other tools - but advanced tech knowledge and skill is beyond his ken. Deq feels comfortable in urban settings but given a preference, he’d be out in the wilds.

Cause - Justice: In a galaxy full of wrongdoing, justice must be done. The character seeks to bring justice to those who deserve it,
while helping victims of injustice to right the wrongs done to them

Before she went missing, Jesa instilled in Deq a mission that he has chosen to define his actions: help those who can’t help themselves. That’s how she ended up on Mimban, to defend against Imperial encroachment, and frequently indicated to Deq that her chosen path might mean she doesn’t come back. After her disappearance, and inspired by her choices, Deq took it upon himself to carry that banner of helping the helpless. He travels across the galaxy, often picking a world and exploring, looking for opportunities to help (and make money enough to support himself along the way). As such there’s no one world he calls home anymore; he avoids Saleucami so as not to bring any troubles he might pick up back to his family (though he stays in fairly regular contact by comms).

Compassion: The character cares about the tribulations others face, and wants to help those he comes across. His compassion may lead to self-sacrifice in order to aidthose who need it.

Hatred: The galaxy can be a cruel and heartless place, and compassion can quickly turn to hatred of the individuals or situations that cause others to suffer. When a character’s mind roils with simmering hatred, that
hatred may be all too slow to fade.

Personality: Deq is quick to smile and relax, and tries to keep the spirits of his friends and companions up, knowing despair isn't helpful in any situation. But at times this is a facade to hide his sorrow and anger at his sister's fate. He clings to a belief she's alive, but his pragmatic side tells him this is most unlikely. That feeds an anger in him at the Empire and those who support it, either openly or secretly.
