Torin's parents were proud when the Jedi Order identified their child as sensitive to the Force and he entered the Order as a youngling at the usual young age.
He has only vague memories - more impressions - of his parents but they have had and still do have a powerful impact on him: their joy, kindness and gentleness.

Torin's experience in the Jedi Order was ideal up until the outbreak of the Clone Wars.
His pensive, compassionate, and thoughtful nature brought him to the attention of Jedi Master Kess Bando who took him on as her Padawan. Master Bando was a renowned diplomat and much to Torin's delight cultivated diplomatic skills and scholarly pursuits in him.
Torin felt at one with himself, society and the Force, looking forward hours studying in the library and the field, diplomatic missions and a life as a Jedi Knight using insight, reason and the influence of the Force to bring peace in the galaxy.

But Torin's dreams were shattered when the Republic and Seperatists went to war. Kess Bando sought diplomatic opportunities where they existed but the war by and large meant the Jedi were needed to assist in the war effort directly.
Torin's martial skills became more honed and he served admirably at the side of his Master but even he could feel the dark side descending on the galaxy and he no longer felt at ease with his path in life. He did appreciate the deeper bonds between himself and Bando as they faced great danger together - trying to live the consular ideals even in a time of war. He also enjoyed the comraderie he found serving along side clone troopers.
Near the end of the Clone Wars Torin and his Master were tasked with destroying a vital Seperatist communications array and evacuating the citizens of a near-by village. The mission went poorly when they met more resistance than their intelligence indicated. Master Bando was killed and Torin completed the mission successfully - the communications array destroyed and most of the villagers saved and evacuated. This trial completed his Padawan training and the Council promoted him to the rank of Knight. Torin was injured but still useful so the Council assigned him to help relocate the villagers he'd rescued.
It was on this mission - away from clone troopers and on the outskirts of the Republic - that Order 66 destroyed the Jedi Order and the Empire rose from the dead husk of the Republic (Obi-wan's general message of warning sent from the Jedi Temple prevented him from returning to Coruscant).
The villagers hid him for a time but Torin knew that he could not stay for long - eventually he'd be hunted down and they'd be in danger....
