Background
With Wookiees, temple training always starts very young. The bonds of family are strong in the species, and can be difficult to overcome for a youngling taken from her home.
From her infancy, all Korrakyysh can remember is the temple. The masters were her parents, the padawans her siblings.
Alas, the Force was not strong enough with her for her to advance her in her training - or so she was told (in reality, after she badly injured another trainee after being injured sparring and flying into a rage, the council decided she lacked the control to be trained further safely). But the temple was her home and the Jedi her family. So she was inducted into the Jedi Service Corps and worked alongside the many would-be Jedi who had the heart, if not the strength in the Force, to serve the Order.
As she grew older, it became clear that she had a way with younglings of all species, and she found her calling in the corps of caretakers and nurses who looked after the numerous young Jedi-to-be who were not yet old enough to be apprenticed as padawans to an elder. It was a duty she cherished and loved.
But the Council are no taskmasters and the Order does not demand lifetime service, and the life of a Wookiee spans many of those of most species. After many decades, and having outlived all of her own mentors and teachers, Korrakyysh reached the end of her service with the Order and still had most of her life before her. She bade farewell to beloved friends and protégés and returned to her home world.
Without family or clan, she would be a stranger on Kashyyk. Yet the Order had very good relations with the Wookiees, and her prior service with the Jedi won her regard and friendship on the world where she was born. She earned the love and trust of neighbor and community and even began to study the trade of midwifery.
Then, though, the Confederacy of Independent Systems came to her world with their droid armies. The people resisted of course, and many entrusted their children to her care as they left their villages to bring battle to the invaders. As war claimed lives, she found herself the de facto matron of an orphanage. But eventually war came to her village and she had to lead her orphans away. Some of the older ones wished to fight, but she persuaded most that they were needed to help guide and protect the younger ones. And so she led them into the dark forest and kept them safe.
Eventually she was able to join up with Republic forces who provided her with supplies, protection, and eventually combat training. Over the course of several years her orphans grew.
Then came Order 66 and the end of the clone wars - but not the end of the occupation of Kashyyk. The republic clones she was allied with did not know the details of her previous life so she was able to escape the initial purge and flee once more into the forests. Many of the orphans followed her, many of the older ones now trained warriors.
Over the nearly two decades after that her wards grew into adulthood. Her aim was always to protect them, not to mold them into child warriors against imperial aggression. But many became just that. Even more found other ways to support their people in the face of enslavement and suffering. But eventually she was alone.
She was fortunate that her enslavement did not last long. Taken by a small band of Trandoshan bounty hunters of the kind often given marque by the Empire to stalk the forests in search of stragglers and resistance sympathizers, she was taken off world rather than to one of the camps or refineries. She was being smuggled through the Lantilles sector and had not even been properly transferred into imperial custody when the X-wings arrived and captured her own captors and the imperials they were going to sell her to.
When they returned her meager personal effects to her, they did not have a hard time recruiting her.

Description
At a little over 2m tall and powerfully built for a female, she cuts an imposing figure. But there is kindness in her smile and a calm, earnest certainty in her bearing. Her coloring is an unremarkable brown, typical for her species.
In addition to the plates of the alliance-issue armor that she wears strapped to her body, she wears a utility belt of careworn age-yellowed plastoid, the clasp emblazoned in chipped and faded red paint with an emblem of a stylized blade pointed up with flames or wings rising up on either side from its hilt.
