Background
Locke Lya'mur was born to a prominent Bothan clan on Bothawui. When Locke was an infant, the Jedi came and offered to train the young force sensitive Bothan among the ranks of their Order. But the Umur clan refused to allow this, for they had plans for the young Locke. His family was crucial to the efforts of the clan, and Locke was next in line to continue their to become family head. The attitude he would no doubt develop would be a great asset to the Umur Clan.
A decade later, despite being such a young age, Locke did indeed excel at any task of espionage, subterfuge and infiltration that he was given. His connection to the Force went unknown to him, but was always there, unwittingly giving him an edge to his silver tongue. This power was unknown, until one night.
Locke was sent to infiltrate a rival Clan's compound. While stealthfully sneaking along among the high shelves of a warehouse, he clumsily knocked a small crate over the egde, sending it dropping toward the guards below. He panicked desperately reaching out to grab it. Useless, he knew, it was too late. He'll be found out! While the worst case scenario ran through his head, he realized the crate has hanging there, suspended in mid air above the heads of the guards. Locke was in disbelief, but through sheer force if will, and a previously unrecognized instinct, he guided the crate back up to the top of the shelf, silently placing it back down.
Locke was ecstatic. What could this be, what could it mean? He raced home to tell his parents. They were thrilled! Their son was starting to develop the powers that the Jedi said he was capable of. They were thrilled at what this could mean for their family, for their clan!
"Wait... Jedi? What Jedi?" Locke asked. His parents told him about how the Jedi came to recruit him as an infant, but the Clan didn't allow it. "It's for the best" his parents told him, "your skills and talents are best used in service to the Clan". Locke was crushed. The Jedi....came for HIM? He doesn't know much of the Jedi, but he has always admired them, especially the Bothan's who became Jedi. That could have been him? He felt betrayed by his own Clan, his own family. They just wanted to use him...he ran, leaving his Clan behind.
Locke snuck aboard a freighter, stowing away as it left Bothawui behind. At first, he didn't really know he he reacted the way he did. But looking back, he realized he always felt connected to more. There had to be more for him than just the squabbles between Clans, and somehow he always knew that. He spent months hopping from ship to ship, from one spaceport to another. He didn't really know where he was heading, but he felt something within him spurring him on.
He found himself on a small freighter traveling somewhere in the Outer Rim. From what he could tell, there was only one other being on board. In the months he spent stowing away, he never once came close to being found out. But there he was, a tall red Devaronian standing over him..."hello, what do we have here?"
Locke was startled, but realized the kind look on the Devaronian's face. Then he recognized the brown robes he was wearing, and hanging on his belt....a Lightsaber?! Could it be?
Jedi Master Du'ntro Khote was a member of the Jedi Exploration Corps. Locke liked him, he felt he could trust him. He told Master Khote about his story so far, and that he knew he was ment for more. He felt he could help more with the Jedi. Master Khote brought young Locke back with him to Coruscant, before the Jedi Council.
Two decades pass, Locke has because a Jedi Knight. His training under Master Finn, a renowned Jedi Sentinel working in the lower levels of Coruscant, and his experience during his like on Bothawui has made him an excellent Sentinel, defending the people among the thousands of levels of Coruscant, taking down Crime Lord's and their organizations. He refined his connection to the Force, harnessing it as needed. And his skills with a Lightsaber advanced, once he found a hilt appropriate to his size. The wonderment of the universe quickly faded in the eyes of Locke Lya'mur after seeing the darkest side of the Galaxy.
Locke recalls when he first started to see the Galaxy for what it is, after nearly being thrown out of the Jedi Order. While still a Padawan in his late teens, Locke found himself on the run from some of the very Sentinels he worked alongside! How could they think he actually committed the crimes they are accusing him of?? He was being framed, that he knew for sure. But by who? And why? Locke escaped his pursuers and spent the better part of the next month on the run, tracking down those who framed him and trying to clear his name. Master Finn never gave up on him, and thanks to his support Locke found the answers he was looking for.
Before him stood a prominent member from his Clan. The Bothan reveals that they are responsible for his current predicament in a ploy to get Locke kicked out of the Order and bring him back to the Umur Clan. Locke was furious, but in their arrogance they underestimated him. He grips the Bothan with the Force, tempted to fling him over the edge of the building they were on top of. But that wouldn't solve anything.... besides, he had a better idea. The next day, the Bothan walked up to the Jedi Temple with Locke beside him. Under the influence of Locke, the Bothan confessed everything to the council, and Locke was cleared. But he could never forgive his Clan for what they did. He forsook his Clan and name, from then on only going by "Locke".
After becoming a Knight, Locke continued to excel in all manners of subterfuge. At times spending years under deep cover, infiltrating gangs and criminal organizations, Locke devoted himself to combating those who would oppress the weak. However, living for years among the criminal underworld has done little good to the virtues he has learned in the Jedi Order. Yes, he is devoted to Justice and the Light Side, but he is far from a paragon. How long can one be steeped in the muck of the criminal world before becoming tainted themselves?
