Background
Standard Jedi upbringing: Found at an age too young to remember his family, put through lessons and training like the rest. While not particularly good at the more abstract use of the Force, he had learned to use the Force to improve himself physically. This enforced his preference to solving problems within the physical world. Some may call his determination to help anyone, regardless of the odds as brave. Others see his drive to leave things better than how he found them as arrogant.
Not much for the bigger picture, Markus simply sees the impending war as another problem to be solved...and an opportunity to further improve his skills.
