Duvani Gulassi grew up admiring Sebulba and became interested in racing and piloting. His dad idolized Sebulba too and would play him on the holonet. He dreamed of entering the races but picked a safe job as a cargo freighter pilot which he would greatly exaggerate to Duvani. Duvani's mom took them to a pod race in person once and Duvani developed an intense desire to ride. He rode their personal speeder and started sneaking out with it as a teen.

As the Empire replaced the Republic, Duvani's dad's jobs took him more towards the galactic core. They were planning to move to Coruscant, but right as they were about to move out of their home on Malastare, Duvani stole a speeder and ran away. He kept switching speeders and trading, eventually stealing some to avoid being found by his parents or the local authorities. His connections and reputation as the street racer earned him cred enough to catch the attention of a local pod racer, Wex "Blue Streak" Collier. He started helping Duvrani get more connected with shady folks, some of which were directly affiliated with the Ivax Syndicate. Eventually Duvani came with Wex offworld, officially getting Duvani free of his parents' search. He went from a big fish in a little pond to a much bigger pond now. He earned the help by doing money races and a few heist driver jobs for Wex and associates, named Ivax Syndicate. This got him decent ships while he learned to pilot interstellar craft. Wex now had him piloting routes even travelling along hyperspace lanes, which got him into some close missions directly interacting or avoiding Imperial entanglements. The heat starts getting bad after some space and planetary encounters.

One job in particular gets really hot, starting with a bar fight leading to dead storm troopers and a local threat to the Syndicate. Then lighting the place on fire to make a snappy escape with the storm troopers' personnel tank. Even after he got back to his ship, his escape is pursued by a TIE fighter that damages his ship. He escapes but desperately needs repairs. Wex introduces Duvani to Laz Falpoc, a Mustafarian droid mechanic and enthusiast. Laz agrees to fix his ship and lend him a droid if he helps him steal some new ones. The mission doesn't go as intended so they only get one droid who Laz lends to Duvani. Duvani acts like he doesn't like the droid but it helps him on his next mission.

What Duvani didn't know is that his face and ship are appearing on Imperial Wanted lists. Duvani is living on the edge escaping stormtroopers for a few months before it becomes unmanageable. Wex offers a chance to get out of there and to get the heat off him. He doesn't ask for any credits but asks that Duvani be ready in case he's asked to do something. Duvani, having not many good options and trusting his friend, takes the offer and is escorted with a new clunkier ship to a different sector of space. Laz provides the actual transport but takes the droid he lent as payment.
