Background
Lavinia Chase was a girl from a rural Corellian settlement who loved working on machines. She would always tinker with various gadgets and speeders, fixing problems and generally making sure that anything she, her family, or her friends owned kept working. While not poor, her family made enough to get by.
Then one day, a mysterious disease broke out amongst the community. Most of the victims were non-humans, but a few humans also fell ill to the disease - including Lavinia's mother. The local clinic couldn't do anything, and the fees involved with giving her treatment in a larger hospital in one of the big cities would tear through the family's earnings and savings in days.
However, Lavinia soon got an offer from the Imperial military - if she enrolled in the local Imperial Academy, and agreed to join the military, her mother would be cared for by the best Imperial doctors available. Lavinia jumped at the chance, accepting the offer. She focused primarily on mechanics classes, intending to repair and maintain Imperial weapons and ships after graduation, but she also took the mandatory combat training and pilot training courses, proving to be a natural pilot, like most Corellians. She received more medical exams than she was expecting, but she just passed it off as her expectations being off.
However, a year later, Lavinia received word of her mother's death, the doctors having been unable to save her life. Lavinia was deeply saddened, but quickly realized that something felt off about the situation. A bit of discreet digging determined the truth of the matter: the illness that struck her hometown was artificial, an Imperial bioweapon test to determine viability and potency of a newly developed virus meant to target aliens. Her town was selected because of its high concentration of non-humans, but it had 'jumped the gap' in a few places. Her mother never even received actual treatment - she was just kept alive while the scientists studied her to determine why she'd been affected by it, then allowed to die once they had all the info they needed. Even some of Lavinia's medical exams were tied into the test - to determine why she didn't fall ill.
Lavinia was horrified. True, she understood the principle of testing weapons and machines to ensure they worked reliably before distributing them, but testing weapons on civilians, or in any environment where collateral damage could harm civilians, was unconscionable to her. Combine that with the fact that the Empire simply considered such collateral additional research material, and the fact that her mother died as a result of the test, and the horror she felt gave way to rage against the Empire. She quickly deserted the Academy and fled, making her way to the Alliance.
After joining the Rebellion, Lavinia helped to repair and maintain starfighters, weapons, and other equipment wherever she got assigned, and sometimes making custom equipment for her fellow Rebels. She always tried to run anything she worked on through thorough testing to make sure it was good to go, but between field ops, rack time, and turnaround on starfighter missions, she wasn't always able to perform the testing she wanted. However, knowing that the Empire will continue to test its weapons on unarmed civilian populations, Lavinia continues to do her part to ensure they are brought down...
Motivation
Improvement/Reliability - Lavinia learned from a young age that the best gadgets in the galaxy are useless unless they run properly and consistently. She does her best to ensure that anything she works on also works properly and consistently.
Duties
Testing (165 Points) - Lavinia is determined to make sure that all weapons, armor, and ships that she works on are thoroughly tested and cleared for use before they are actually used. She almost never has enough time to be as thorough as she wants, but she will still do what testing she can.
