Background
Zod was discovered much later in life by a Jedi who had accidentally made a mistake in their hyperspace calculation and crashed into the wild space planet. Lira San, homeworld of the Lasats. There, they were met by the friendly albeit cautious locals and got help. When among the people, they sensed someone who was stronger in the force or, at the very least, an outlier. Meeting them, they would find the six-year-old Zod’Gren with his father being instructed in the ways of a Lasat warrior. After speaking with his family about the order and what the Jedi were, they were convinced that Zod would make a bigger difference out there than on their planet in the middle of nowhere. Saying goodbye, he was taken by the Jedi on their now-repaired ship back to the temple.
At the academy, Zod quickly found that he really didn’t fit in, being an uncommon species and slightly older than everyone else. This often caused him to become frustrated and lash out at others who would make fun of him for being unable to complete a lesson. He had wanted to quit and return home; he missed his family despite the Jedi’s teachings of having no attachments.
And he likely would have gone if he didn’t meet a small togruta girl. She also often found herself picked on, but less for her skills and more for her stature and strength. He saw a kindred spirit in her and would often assist her if he ever saw others picking on her. Although, she also helped him in more ways than she could know. The two formed a close bond; however, it was broken early when a master selected Ponela and Zod was about to move into the survey reserves if he could not impress a master in time to teach him. Nearing the age of 14, Zod was chosen by Master Rala Atar, a Mirakula Jedi.
A Jedi master particularly gifted in sensing her surroundings (as many Miralukan Jedi are) and the telekinesis used in her preferred Niman style. Her previous Padawan, like Zod, was a late selection who likely would've ended up in the AgriCorps without her guidance and tutelage. She employs bizarre and often dangerous techniques in training, but it is hard to argue with her results. Zod was put through many strenuous trials under her. Often facing deadly challenges and threats that could cripple other Padawans. He was pretty sure she wanted him dead, but she always told him she would never give him a task she did not believe he could do.
Her methods ring true, though, and Zod did find himself improving, becoming a capable duelist. Albeit, he only knows one form as of now.
More than anything, however, he misses Ponela.
