Background
ENTERING LIFE AS A MISCREANT : ENEMIES AND ANTAGONISTS
Those who have experienced the hard life may well have encountered enough villains to consider a life of crime normal.
Grast has had to steal due to necessity from an early age and so is mostly comfortable with his moral stance and has had time to perfect his technique. He spent his childhood working as a pickpocket and lookout for a large criminal gang. After so much time spent in the gang, getting lost in the Outer Rim is an appealing prospect and after so much time spent stealing, he finds smuggling second nature.
Sometimes settled systems lie so far off the shipping lanes that most companies tack on exorbitant freight charges or refuse to bother making supply runs altogether. This allows Grast to provide a beneficial service to frontier folk. Unfortunately, providing this service can sometimes put Grast at odds with local crime rings benefiting from the shortages.
Whether he is trying to drag himself out of poverty or claw his way to the top, blowing off his old gang to go play courier in the Outer Rim is sure to come back to haunt him.
Motivation
Personal Freedom: Grast desires the freedom to do what he wants.
Obligations
Debt: Being a smuggler offers little security, but acquiring a ship and keeping it functioning costs a lot of credits. In order to stay in business, debts may be necessary. Grast has to resolve them all eventually, and some lenders are less lenient than others.
