Middle Class Struggles:

Sometimes a character comes from modest, but comfortable conditions prior to entering a life of adventure. This broad category could include anything from a skilled technician, minor political official, professional soldier, or any other lifestyle that typically involves hard work—but with the pay to make it worthwhile.

Power:

The character craves power and authority over others. Their rule may not be despotic, but they wants to control their situation and those around them, often bettering themself in the process.

Criminal:

The character has a criminal record, or was accused of a crime (perhaps one they didn't even commit), and is somehow embroiled in the legal system. Obligation may be settled by paying ongoing legal costs, making attempts to bury evidence, or efforts to prove their innocence.

Tiny Tam lived a decent life as Teemo's accountant. However, Tam knew he was smarter than Teemo, and if he had Teemo's resources he could do so much more than Teemo. So, he tried accessing private info on Teemo's data logs but was caught in the process. Tam managed to talk his way out of it but not without a punishment. Now, Tam is stuck working for Teemo with little pay until Teemo considers his debt repaid.
