Background

Summary: Galen Westlake’s story at its heart is much like the tragic stories of Arthurian Knight Errant. Constantly seeking to bring justice and peace to others, but un able have peace himself. Having once loved, Galen believes that there is little out there for him, so he seeks battles and quests because he fears to face the past.

1. How did you discover your force sensitivity?
Galen discovered his ability to heal others after his son was injured by a large Predatory Cat.

2. Describe a moment where you fell prey to your moral weakness or experienced a tragedy/horror that still haunts you.
With the lost of his family after the Empire destroyed the small colony town. Galen joined the Alliance in hopes of revenging the loss of his family. After, the collapse of the Empire Galen continued as a drifter much like a medieval Knight Errant. Feeling that he is cursed since he lived and so many others have died. This constant regret pushes him to at times be very reckless.

3. How did you come to join the NJO?
Galen was recruited by Selene Trilyun after Galen came to heal his Kel Dor recruit on their way to NJO. Selene spoke saw that he was using the force as a means to assist with his medical skill.

4. Name one NPC your character has a strong connection with. This could be a family member, a friend, a work contact, or a bitter rival.
Captain Vespation ordered the destruction of the Colony which led to the death of his wife and son.

5. Describe a moment in your life where you demonstrated your moral strength despite adversity. Choosing to heal the Kel Dor girl instead of pursuing his prey.

Galen has come close a few times to executing imperial fugitives, but the memory of his wife and son have always brought him back from the edge. He knows in his heart that she would not want him to kill in her name. So, he has turned these fugitives over to the New Republic


Galen Westlake was a simple colonist on an Outer Rim planet in a small unimportant town. He had been born on a Core Planet where he studied medicine. During that time, he met his would wife be wife, Megan, and the mother to his future son.

Full Backstory:
He realized soon after graduating that the Galactic Empire was starting to collapse. With the major shifts that were occurring he knew that one day the horrors of war would be visited on the citizens that lived in the Core Worlds. Retribution for the corruption and cruelty of the Empire would be paid back in full measure.

He decided that Megan and him would join an expectation to the farthest reaches of the Outer Rim. He knew that it would be difficult, but he also knew that they would strive in a place that would be truly free.

Galen discovered that he had unique healing powers when his 5 yr. old son was attacked by a Kulat, a large predatory cat. His son was mortally injured, and as Galen attended him, he noticed the wounds closed more rapidly than possible as if they were not there. Word spread of his immense healing powers, and people from other planets travelled at times to see if he could heal them.

Three years had passed, he was awoken by the sound of a large transport craft landing near his small town. The transport had Galactic Empire markings. One of the townsmen said they were looking for Alliance agents. They scoured the town, but not finding the agent the Imperial Officer, Captain Vespasian, ordered the town to be destroyed. Galen was shot and left for dead as the Imperials burned down the town killing most of the townspeople including his wife and son.

Galen survived his wounds in no small part to his connection with the force and its healing ability. He joined the Alliance afterwards until the war was over. So many times, during the final years of Collapse of the Empire, Galen knew he should have died. Instead, he survived despite his best efforts. He felt like a ghost of a man forced to wander alone without his family.

For Galen, the war never truly ended. Rumors of Captain Vespasian and others like him circulated. They needed to be brought to justice. No matter where they hid, he would find them. Traveling the Outer Rim alone until one day when a young Kel Dor defended a human slave against the slaver and his thugs. He was trying to lay low as he was closing in on one of the Imperial fugitives, but he knew that it would be wrong to allow the brave girl to die. Choosing to abandon his current quest, he went to the girl laying his hands on her as he had done many times before. The wounds closed, and she would live. Selene Trilyun saw him, and realized that he had stumbled upon another Force Sensitive.

Once the Kel Dor girl was on the ship, Kazar came to him telling him of the New Jedi Order and Force. Galen felt compelled to tell Kazar about his past. Selene surmised that the Empire destroyed Galen’s town because they believed that he was of the Alliance’s Force Users. Selene warned Galen that he was like a candle burning on both ends, and that he would burn out alone if he did not try to become a New Order Jedi. Only than could he bring honor and Justice for those he lost.

Motivation

Help the Helpless: In a galaxy full of momentous events and desperate struggle, it is all too easy to forget the poor, the
weak, and the downtrodden. The character seeks to give voice to the voiceless, and help those who cannot help themselves
