Background
After hearing about the destruction of the 1ST death star, Garik realized that there was no way to make enough money as a medical droid in a hospital, and as a liberated droid they need the money. For optimal profit, Garik determined a career in piloting was necessary - kill enough famous things, write a bestselling memoir. Unfortunately, medical droids don't make good pilots.
