Background

A member of the peace-loving and industrious Verpine race, a young Kryyx worked hard to study Verpine starships and shatter-based technologies. He became a skilled engineer in these fields, and joined a smaller-scale team focused on assembling exotic ships and weapons to customer specifications. Kryyx lived a humble life working in this way for many years, until one tragic event changed his life forever.

A routine job turned into a living nightmare when a group of criminals posing as a client seized control of the shatter weapons, and took the workforce hostage. Using the special trait of the Verpine to communicate silently, Kryyx tried to rally his people to fight back, but was shocked to find he was alone in the idea. Knowing he lacked the skills to fight and win alone, Kryyx swallowed his pride as the thieves used the very same weapons he had created to take all of his assets by force, even escaping in the starships he built.
Kryyx has never felt as powerless as he did in that moment.

Unable to find the motivation to continue working, Kryyx spent some time after the incident living with a close friend. During this period, he learned that such cases were commonplace for his people, and his resentment grew and festered. After a painstaking amount of research, he couldn’t find a single example in recent times of the Verpine fighting back and winning, without relying on outside help. Deeply conflicted by the shackles of fear binding his people, Kryyx began to feel alienated from them, from his homeworld, from within his own mind. Recalling his powerlessness from that day, Kryyx saved up enough credits to leave Roche, and with only some basic weapons and equipment to his name, Kryyx set out to become a bounty hunter; he set out to prove everyone wrong.

Motivation

Early into his career bounty hunting, Kryyx saw little-to-middling success. It would still be quite some time before he could hold his own in a fight, and he had a reckless tendency to pick jobs and fights that were too difficult for him. Yet in spite of this, Kryyx possessed an unshakable determination to press on and gradually honed his skills. After many trials and tribulations as a member of his current party, Kryyx came to realize the value of learning and growing stronger together, compared to the vain and vengeful approach he’d taken in his past as a solo hunter. Although his views on the matter were changing, Kryyx never let go of his ambition to become a symbol of Verpine strength for the people of Roche.

Obligations

-Betrayal (10): After being double-crossed by a client, Kryyx became a bounty hunter to seek retribution, and has little tolerance for banditry.
-Dutybound (5): Formerly a high level engineer, Kryyx was always determined to fulfill his contracts. Now a fledging bounty hunter, this remains unchanged.
-Responsibility (5): Traveling with Sanjo as his bodyguard eventually caused Kryyx to feel a deep connection with the trader. He now views Sanjo's quest to find the remains of his people as his own.

-Power Armor: +3 soak, +1 defense. Stays powered for 12 hours and takes 1 hour to charge. When powered, gain +1 to Brawn and Athletics. Suit contains detection systems to reduce 2 setbacks from Perception, Vigilance, and Combat checks hindered by optical or auditory factors. When unpowered, encumbrance becomes 12 and the armor loses its buffs and defense rating.
-Power Armor Mods: Optical Camouflage System upgrades Stealth skill by 3 and grants Master of Shadows talent. Omniscan Integrated Scanner adds General Purpose Scanner functionality, +1 Boost to Perception checks made to locate hidden enemies. Thermal Shielding System removes 1 difficulty from Resilience checks to resist fire/extreme heat, and removes 2 Setbacks caused by such conditions. Modified by teammate for +1 soak and +1 defense.
