Background

Born on Kaller to a family in poverty, Rahj Tahze yearned for a way to scramble his way out of the pit he was born in. Not particularly quick, not particularly strong (by Kalleran standards), Rahj couldn't fall into the cultural traps which defined his people's culture: personal glory above all.

Years spent scrapping in a junkyard taught him many lessons, in both working with tools and digging into the components that made most things tick. Those talents were used for both good and ill, as he fell into a crowd of young thugs who used his skills to enable a series of breaking and enterings, which ultimately culminated with the death of a young man.

Left 'holding the bag' Rahj was detained and imprisoned for a death he had only tangentially been responsible for. The rest of the gang split up after the debacle, finding their ways into other circles and fading into the background.

Rahj was left to stew, imprisoned for eight years. His premature freedom was granted only due to a series of lucky breaks which placed Rahj in front of a prison data terminal, where he managed to slice in and swap his identity with an inmate named Ray. A Ray who happened to be getting freed later that week.

The new "Ray" didn't think twice about condemning a nearly freed kalleran to nearly twelve years of further punishment, taking the one chance he had, and running.
