Background
Officially, an R&D division of Industrial Automaton was funded to develop their new R-series droid specifically for the use of the Empire. Officially, they put together eight prototypes of what would be known as the R6-series droid. Officially, a group of Rebel special forces infiltrated the development lab and destroyed all eight prototypes which severely hampered the continued research.
Unofficially, nine units were developed by this R&D lab and eight were little more than fancy chassis around barebones skeletons. While it's unclear whether IA itself pushed the project forward or this lab was simply more sympathetic to the Alliance, the fact of the matter is that the Empire's resources were put to work on creating a new style of astromech droid prototype specifically for Rebellion use. Referred to as RX6-A9- Rex for short- The prototype R6 model was built with counter-Imperial operations in mind. Designed not only to infiltrate computer systems but to detect any intrusions or attempts at surveillance, as well as the usual IA design that could be slotted into snub fighters in order to keep them flying and protect the pilots within, Rex was the ideal Rebel operative in astromech clothing.
Like most droids, Rex comes with a personality fitting his intended objective- He's unfailingly loyal to the Rebellion, entirely opposed to the Empire and brings to the plate a surprising amount of wit for a droid that's comparatively fresh off the line. Unfortunately with that wit comes quicker degradation, and his personality developed quirks rapidly- His tendency to not be entirely forthright with his allies derives from his natural caginess to protect operation specifics, and he tends to believe (often rightly) that he's the best brain in the room. This often colours his binary speech with barely veiled insults about the irrationality of organics, but this is usually softened by his genuine desire to keep his squadmates safe and ensure the mission is completed with the fewest possible casualties.
Motivation
Drive: The Mission
The current assignment or mission drives this character. He stops at nothing to see that the orders he's been given are carried out, and carried out well. He doesn't give up easily, and he is considered to be a tenacious droid by the troops who serve with him.
Duties
CR: 1
Tech Superiority
Magnitude: 145
This PC knows that while having the best-trained crew is the most important thing, having that crew on the best combat platforms is a very close second. If not for Rebels focused on maintaining tech superiority, the Alliance never would have acquired X-wings, or created the A-wing or B-wing starfighters. These PCs are always looking to bring new designs, schematics, and the engineers that create them back to base.
Description
Given the prototypical nature of his creation, Rex has far more in common with earlier R-series astromechs than anything revolutionary. His headpiece is unique in design, but otherwise his body is primarily that of the average IA make. Coloured red and white, his design scheme was intended from the beginning to fit in well with the Rebel Alliance without any clear markings.
