Background

Hunk was born beneath the endless suns and shifting dunes, wrapped in cloth before he ever saw the sky. The tribe raised him as one of their own—taught him the silence of the desert, the language of wind, the rituals of bone and sand.

As far as he knows, he is Tusken.

And yet… he is not.

Beneath his wrappings, small truths betray him—subtle ridges along his skull, a different cast to his skin, a presence that feels just slightly other. The elders never spoke of it. The tribe never explained it. They simply gave him a name, a gaffi stick, and a place in the line.

A place at the edge of the line.

Hunk has always been the one sent first into danger. The one chosen for the longest watches, the harshest treks, the hunts that others quietly avoid. Among the tribe, he is treated not with cruelty—but with a quiet, unspoken expectation:

If he falls, the tribe loses nothing.
If he survives… then perhaps he earns something.

But Hunk does not see it that way.

To him, every trial is a chance to prove himself. Every hardship is a step closer to belonging. He meets each task with stubborn determination, charging forward with a kind of blunt courage that borders on recklessness. Whether it’s pride, naivety, or something deeper, he refuses to question the tribe’s intent.

So when the sacred burial grounds were desecrated—bones scattered, spirits disturbed—the elders gave him a task:

Recover the remains.
Walk the sands.
Make it right.

Alone.

To the tribe, it is a sentence dressed as a ritual.

To Hunk, it is everything he has ever wanted.

A proving.

A chance to finally stand among them—not as something almost Tusken, but as one of their own.

He does not see the truth.

That the dunes are vast.
That the enemies who took the bones may not be of Tatooine at all.
That no one expects him to return.

But Hunk walks forward anyway, into the endless horizon, carrying nothing but faith in a tribe that has already let him go.

And somewhere beneath the wrappings, beneath the dust and silence—

the blood of something else stirs.
