Background

When Volt was a teenager, the Clone Wars broke out across the galaxy. Volt’s parents were researchers developing new battle droids for the CIS in one of the many research facilities on Muunilinst. This led to an interest in droids and how they work at a very early age and instilled loyalty to the CIS. Even as the clone wars were reaching its conclusion, his parents were fiercely loyal to the CIS and worked non-stop to develop new droids to help win the war. Sadly, during late stage testing of a new series of droids, the facility was destroyed by Republic forces with only his father, Jico Civik, surviving and being taken into custody by the Republic. Not long after the rise of the galactic empire occurred and his father was whisked away into the imperial prison system, leaving Volt alone in his parent’s small workshop in the lower cities on Muunilinst.

Over the next 20 years, Volt had to make his way on his own and scrounge up a living fixing things out of the small workshop he now called home. As he got older, he made a few contacts in the criminal underworld out of necessity leading to jobs helping strip vehicles for parts or reprogramming stolen droids for solo criminals to organizations if needed. He always had a fascination with CIS battle droids and worked on any he could get his hands on for various clients in the underworld, ending up collecting a few for himself. Volt’s dealings in the underworld gave him a reputation which soon caught the attention of the Empire after a small resurgence of outlawed CIS battle droids started appearing in the criminal underworld on Muunilinst. The ISB began an investigation which landed their sights on Volt after many interrogations on various criminals caught with these droids. This set their eyes on Volt, which led to a visit by an officer of the ISB who interrogated Volt with physical harm. In his desperation to stop the beating, he remotely activated his small stash of CIS battle droids which promptly killed the agent. There was no covering this up and no way of getting attention away from himself. With the only option to flee, he packed his few belongings, downloaded his illegal CIS battle droid documents and what research notes his parents left behind before they were lost and ran. Before leaving he set the droids to kill anyone looking for the officer and left the planet, wanting to put as much distance from Muunilinst and the ISB investigation as he could.

Volt managed to get away, but now with the ISB looking for him after the murder of the agent. Volt drifted from place to place taking what jobs he could and found consistent work for the criminal underworld to stay ahead of the Empire. After news of the Empire’s defeat with the destruction of the Death Star, Volt felt less afraid about looking over his shoulder thinking that more resources would be moved towards locating the rebels responsible. With some breathing room, he continued to lay low and work to survive and move on to the next world, but started taking his time knowing he most likely had more time as far out in the Outer Rim he was.
