Background
You wouldn’t think it if you were in the Core worlds or took a look in a major Imperial installation, but the destruction of the first Death Star created a hole the size of small moon in the Empire’s workforce. On Mid-Rim and occupied worlds such as Iridonia many governors and moffs already used locals as forced labour but now even turned to conscripting some of them as well.
Miles Mutara was one such unlucky soul. When the Imps came to collect him and his best friend, he threw him under the speeder to get away and save his own skin. So Miles spent most of the war flying cargo transports for the Galactic Empire. On one occasion his ship was ambushed by Rebel fighters. The Zabrak was forced to evade and shoot down a Rebel x-wing in defence, an event that still haunts him in his dreams.
Not only that, but Mutara was pressured by the Imperials to report and spy on the locals under threat of death or a sentence in a penal colony. For three years Miles conducted covert surveillance and operations against his people under the watchful eye and tutelage of an ISB handler. He had no choice - or at least that's what he told himself. Once the Empire fell his unwilling role as an Imperial spy was discovered and he had to flee his home world.
Miles didn't find Darro but, through the course of his search, fell into doing the same kind of investigating he had done for the Empire now for private citizens. Tracking down missing persons, staking out shady spaceports, you name it. The work was enough to make ends meet until roughly five years after the Battle of Endor when his obsession with finding Darro to exact his revenge landed him on Cantonica with only a single credit to his name.
