Background

Born in 47 BBY on Umbara, Kalhis was born to the Vornne household, a member of Umbara's highest caste the Rootai. The Vornne family were some of the leading members of the Umbaran military, and Kalhis' future would be that of a great tactician or military commander had he not been found by a lone Jedi scouting for potential force sensitives. Latent ability was found within the infant Kalhis, and with the consent of his family, he was taken to Coruscant to be trained in the Jedi arts.
Kalhis was a studious pupil, driven to succeed at all costs. He had a manipulative nature about him, never quite breaking free of that which most Umbarans felt compelled towards. This concerned his master, but he was clearly loyal to the principles of the order. This was until, as a young man, he returned for the first time to Umbara. Their assignment was to broker peace between households on the verge of open civil war. While there, Kalhis would run into a member of another royal household, a woman named Tethes. She was beautiful, intelligent, and one of the most incredible people he had ever met. The two were drawn to each other immediately, and though he was only on the planet for a few weeks, he would find every excuse to return.
He was eventually knighted, though his time with the order would not last long as his relations with Tethes were soon exposed. The order left him no choice but to leave. His loyalty to the order was strong, but he couldn't escape the feeling that it wasn't where he belonged. Perhaps he could never escape his nature, or perhaps his will simply wasn't strong enough. Whatever the case, he was content to start a family with Tethes and live out his days among the Umbaran royalty. He connected with his family, meeting his father and mother for the first time. To his delight they embraced him with open arms, pleased to see their son had grown into a man. Within the next few years, his daughter and son were born, and they became his entire world.
The clone wars soon began, and Kalhis watched as Umbara flipped sides as it progressed. He was not particularly pleased with this, but there was little he could do as the ruling council overwhelmingly supported this defection in the wake of the senator's death. The grand army soon came to retake the planet, and Kalhis went with his father to oversee the resistance effort. The Umbaran people fought with tenacity, but the clone army could not be resisted, and Kalhis and his father were both captured by the republic. The capital city was taken, and Kalhis was led there to learn that while his family had stayed there during the war, his son had been killed during one of the republics bombing campaigns. He was broken, and held in custody until the war closed. Peace accords with the newly instated empire reparative the Umbaran government. The Vornne household would stay in power, but as a leading member of the Umbaran revolt, Kalhis would be exiled with his wife and daughter to the Umbaran countryside, a harsh life, but a simple one.
It was here he learned that his wife had contracted an illness. A degenerative disease, genetic in nature, and fast acting once it had taken hold. She was gone within the year, and that left just him and his daughter Sayna. She was his world, one of the kindest souls he had ever known. They subsisted on the farm for a few more years. But this degenerative disease was indeed genetic, and soon Sayna contracted it as well. Kalhis was broken, he did everything to ease her suffering as she passed, and he was finally left with nothing. Something snapped within him. What had he done to deserve this? He had given up everything to stay by his family, he was willing to give up his position in the order, his status in the Caste system, even a comfortable life within society to ensure a safe life for his family. And they had been taken from him by no fault of his own. He would not allow this, he would finally take agency over his own life. There had been whispers while he was in the order, whispers of ancient knowledge capable of doing things no one alive had witnessed. Raising someone from the dead even. The bodies of his wife and son were long gone, but that of his daughter he would take into the city, placing her in cryo storage. He had outlived both of his children, he had given up everything for his family, he could give up his morals too if it meant giving Sayna the chance at life she was always meant to have. He travelled the galaxy for years, acquiring any knowledge he deemed useful. All the while, something was calling to him, he could feel it. Whatever dark secrets he needed to uncover to bring his daughter back, nothing would keep him from it. He set out for the Rhiza system, another face in the crowd drifting along...

Motivation

Kalhis is motivated to return his daughter to life by any means necessary. He has known sacrifice well, and no price is too high if it leads him to this aim.

Obligations

Obligation +10: +10xp

Criminal 10: Kalhis was once a member of the Jedi order, and while there is little record of his time there left, were this to come to light in any legal sense it would pose a grave threat to him

Oath 5: Kalhis has vowed that he will sacrifice anything necessary to see his daughter returned to life, no matter the cost. His lingering moral sensibilities leave him unsure how far he is willing to go, but he remains steadfast that he will not deviate from this path until the job is done.

Morality 29
Strength: Curiosity
Weakness: Obsession
Kalhis's curiosity with forbidden knowledge has turned into a full on obsession as he chases the means to resurrect his daughter. He has given up any moral qualms he may have once held, willing to do anything to obtain the knowledge

Description

Kalhis stands tall and gaunt, where he once stood strong and imposing, age and a lack of personal care has begun to slowly wither him. He prefers, like many umbarans, to work in the shadows, and he is rarely seen without a long cloak wrapped around himself.

Age: 50
Height: 6'4"
