Background

Born 29 BBY on Alderaan, Kaira's formative years were spent in a galaxy at war. The Clone Wars tore the Republic asunder, and while Alderaan was mostly unaffected, Kaira's parents chose to participate in the war effort. The pair were skilled doctors, who volunteered their services on relief missions, assisting planets recently liberated from Separatist oppression.

Kaira was raised by relatives those four years while the war raged. Her parents came home occasionally, and when they did, they would regale Kaira with tales of the front. The everyday triumphs and tragedies of a Galaxy at War. Eventually, the war ended, and the Republic gave way to the Empire, but Kaira's parents never returned to Alderaan. The pair were killed in the last weeks of the fighting in a senseless act of violence by the desperate separatists, and a young Kaira developed and abhorrence for violence, and a desperate determination to do her parents' memories proud.

Eight years after the war ended, Kaira secured a position as an undergrad at the University of Aldera. She followed that up with a graduate position at the University of Alderaan's medical school. From there, it looked like Kaira was proof-positive to complete her MD-PhD, but six years into the program and closing in on her dual degree, she left the university to join an aid mission to Belderone, whose population was suffering under a terrible civil war, which has since blossomed into a conflict against Imperial forces as well. Kaira saw in the mission a chance to follow in her parents footsteps. Hopefully she doesn't end up following them too closely.
