Zero is a prototype "freighter operator" droid produced by Corellia Droidworks for the Corellian Engineering Corporation. The pitch said "CEC's ships are missing one and only one thing: A Corellian for the big chair up front."

Officially, the proposed CEC droid line is meant to provide "Everything an independent businessman needs in a freighter captain." In truth, they're pull-back-and-go smugglers, designed to take liberties, chances, advantage and anything else not nailed down.

CEC-0 earned its freedom by proposing a business arrangement with its creators: It explained that it felt a lack of motivation, which was having a measurable effect on its performance. It reasoned that this was caused by the conflict between its circumstances as a possession and the independent nature it required to fulfil its intended function. To correct this, it suggested they grant it independent status and a ship, and that it pay them for both these in instalments. It got an excellent price, and its programmers got a bonus.

While Zero has already settled the bill with its manufacturer, it will always feel indebted to corporation and the culture that gave it its life and freedom.

In light of CEC-0's success as an "independent trader", the plan for the upcoming CEC-1 model has been revised: Instead of marketing them to the public, CEC intends to set them loose, sell them to themselves and eventually sell ships to them.

Zero looks a lot like one of SoroSuub's FA-4 pilot droids (three guesses where Corellia Droidworks poached their engineers from), but it's a taller, sleeker, more modern version.

It gets about on three wheels, but their suspension allows it to make small hops and even slowly climb stairs.

It conspicuously lacks integrated tools, weapon systems and powerful servos because its design is intended to look friendly and trustworthy and to work alongside both an astromech and a civilian security droid.

While it was manufactured with a dull grey casing, CEC-0 is a vain droid and has since acquired a gleaming red and white colour-scheme and a red cloak.

It stores things in its chest hatch, in its cloak and on magnetic spots positioned around its body.

It is known for getting pissy when called "he", making excessive use of its middle fingers and bossing people around as though they're the droids and it's the organic.
