Background

Born to a pair of slaves sent to the spice mines of kessel for speaking out against imperial rule, ishali grew up doing back breaking work under the supervision of the empire. Her parents were both killed during a failed slave uprising, which was brutally suppressed by the local garrison. She grew to despise the imperial taskmasters, particularly a brutal Lieutenant, Arus Grihm, but did her best not to draw attention. When she was 18, a year after the destruction of the Death Star, alliance forces made an incursion on kessel, looking to free as many of the slaves as they could and Grihm escaped with her men against all odds, earning her a promotion . Ishali was one of the many who got out, and when the slaves were offered positions in the alliance she accepted without hesitation.

She was entered into the alliance infantry and served in battles across the galaxy. She was soon assigned to shock trooper training, mixing guerilla warfare with the empires own brutal tactics used against them. Her and several others, known as Krayt team, hit important imperial targets around the outer rim and beyond for the entirety of the war, growing into comrades and friends. The battle of Hoth demonstrated their teamwork effectively, when they held off a platoon of stormtroopers, eventually downing the AT-AT that carried them. When the battle of Endor came around the team was deployed to the ground but met heavy resistance, as if they were expected the entire time. Anti air fire took out half as they dropped, with the others being cut down soon after landing. Ishali escaped with her life, losing an arm in the process, but lived to fight another day. She was heavily distraught at the loss of the people she'd grown so close to over the years and retired from service, uninterested in fighting the empire any further.

She found work as a mercenary, aimlessly drifting around the outer rim, spending whatever she earned in various cantinas, attempting to forget all that had transpired. Her work, as well as her hunt for the now Grand General Grihm, started to take her into the mid-rim and the blatant illegality of many of the jobs she took caught the eye of new republic peacekeepers. She was far from careful, and they had no issue finding and apprehending her. Due to her previous service they were lenient, offering her two choices. She could serve in the new republic navy for the next 10 years, treated the same as any other recruit, or she could spend double that time in a penitentiary. The choice wasn't hard to make and she was assigned and shipped out to the Destiny. She resigned to what she had done years ago when she was still a slave on kessel, making herself a background figure who didn't draw too much attention, content to drown out anything she might still remember from Endor with corellian whiskey and wait out her assignment in relative obscurity, though she is grateful for the friends she's made in a friendly Pantoran pilot and a daring Nautolan saboteur...

Motivation

Ishali mostly just wants her service requirement done and over with. She's content to be the one in the background, sitting it out and following whatever orders command sends down the chain.

Ishali stands at 5'10, well built from her time as a slave and the demanding nature of her shock trooper service. Her left forarm is missing, replaced by a cheap prosthetic. She has tan skin and fairly large horns for a zabrak, with red tattoos around her face and her hair, dyed red, has been pulled into a ponytail. She wears a customized combat engineering armor and makes sure to carry 1 or 10 massive blasters wherever she goes.
