Background
Jado Kale was born on Coruscant a few years before the start of the Clone Wars. The son of a minor bureaucrat, Jado spent much of his young life racing swoop bikes and engaging in petty mischief in the Undercity of Coruscant. As he approached adulthood, his father arranged for Jado's acceptance in to the newly reorganized Imperial Military Academy of Carida, with the hopes that the younger Kale would be able to have a promising career in the new Imperial Navy or the elite Stormcrooper Corps.
Jado did well at the Academy, mastering the principles of combat and earning a place in the Stormtrooper Corps. He served for a year on a Victory-class Star Destroyer, participating in peace keeping missions throughout the Outer Rim. As the Empire solidified, however, these peace keeping missions turned to the enslavement of non-human sentients. For Jado, who had grown up in the cosmopolitan and diverse environment of Coruscant, and had spent much time in the Undercity, these actions were an anathema.
Eventually, Jado decided he could no longer support such actions, and deserted from the corps. Unable to return to Coruscant or the other Core worlds with a strong Imperial presence, he made his way to Nar Shaddaa. He began hiring himself out as a mercenary soldier from the Smuggler's Moon, a profession his military training made him particularly adept at. He's taken jobs as they come over the past year, working as an enforcer and guard for a few minor warlords. Recently, an acquaintance he met during one of these jobs convinced him to join in with the crew of an independent freighter.
Motivation
Jado's short term motivation is making enough credits to keep going on the Outer Rim. In the long term, he opposes the tyranny that has been growing in the Empire, particularly the enslavement and oppression of non-humans. If he sees an opportunity to help out a creature in slavery, he will take it.
Obligations
Criminal (5 points): As a deserter from the Imperial Military, Jado is a criminal. While hardly a top priority for the Empire, they will attempt to arrest him if his status as a deserter is discovered.
Debt (5 points): Jado left the Imperial service with little more than the clothes on his back, and most of what he had was spent making his way to Nar Shaddaa. In order to begin working as a mercenary, he took out a loan on the Smuggler's Moon. The loan is due soon, and he needs to get some credits together to make the payments.
