Slightly larger and infinitely more advanced than a standard
emergency medpac, the FastFlesh is a good example
of a medpac carried by a trained medic. The medpac
carries instruments for emergency held surgery, a
better diagnostic computer and mediscanner, advanced
synth-nutrient replicators for sustaining a patient's vital
nutrients, spray splints, and counter-radiation and biological
poison drugs.
This medpac allows the user to perform relatively
complicated medical procedures in the held, and can
rival the infirmaries on smaller starships. It allows
characters to attempt to heal others using Medicine
checks without penalty as described on page 219,
and additionally grants a • on all attempts. In addition,
the internal stim storage grants the user the
equivalent of one stimpack per scene (although the
GM can rule the device has run out of stims if the supplies
are used continuously).

Background

Dalen grew up on Coruscant, the only child of honest, hard-working members of the courier guild. From midway through his attendance in public school, he was recognized as having great potential in the healing arts. After having gone as far as he could in public schooling, he wanted to pursue higher education in a medical field.

Receiving a grant from his parents' guild resulted in partial payment of medical school. While there, he learned a great deal about medical technology, primarily on humans, as well as networking with the more wealthy elites of his World. In order to complete the remaining credits of coursework, he took a risk and looked beyond regular channels for credits.

By borrowing a sum of money from an unsavory member of a criminal organization (Black Sun), he could complete schooling then repay his loan within a few years instead of taking the more traditional route of government loans. In the interim, he would perform side jobs for this organization, healing those injured members of Black Sun.

On completion of training and licensure, as well as excellent position in the graduating class, Dalen started his practice and began repaying his debt to Black Sun.

Black Sun had a demand for him to work on a regional political figure, off books, as an "interest payment " to repay his debt to them completely. The surgery went wrong, the politician died, significant information was released about unsavory dealings of the politician and Dalen was unfortunately (but perhaps not coincidentally) associated as an accomplice of Black Sun who was potentially responsible for the killing of this politician.

Dalen's license was revoked and, while not convicted, he became an undesirable on the only planet he had lived on. Black Sun reiterated that the loan must be paid or Dalen and his Parents' lives would be forfeit. He could never run far enough to escape their reach. They will require assistance periodically, he cannot refuse. In return the loan will remain in "good standing".

Dalen departed to the Outer Rim knowing that his services would prove more valuable there and it's possible he can still pay off his loan and, potentially, even regain his credibility if he could only prove his version of the truth.

Motivation

Public motivation for Dalen is to get back the money to payoff his debt, freeing his parents and himself from a certain, and quite unpleasant death at the hands of Dark Sun.

Private motivations are for Dalen to prove his innocence. The only thing he did was to take out a loan. He was in no way responsible for the death of the politician, the chance of his survival was far from certain, Dalen did all that he could to save the patient but the damage was too great. If he could find someone to confirm Dalen's version of events, he might still return home to live the life he planned.
