Background

As a human on Coruscant, Raynor Halcyon blended into the masses quite well as just another face in the crowd. He grew up modestly enough, in a lower end apartment in the upper city, but due to his rambunctious nature, he made a few friends in the Lower City that were not the best of sorts, his closest friend being Monty Quid. Though they got up to all kinds of things, Raynor would leave before it ever became too much, as he never truly wanted a criminal record, he just enjoyed time with friends. Despite what they got up to, Raynor always seemed to be exceptionally lucky, whether to get away flawlessly, to convince someone to do something he wanted, or later on, to get a job that he knew he wasn't qualified for. One summer Raynor got a job loading cargo onto ships in the upper city hangars, despite no prior qualification and experience, it was almost as though the job had been handed to him, but he could never place why. Eventually, he had less and less time to be with his friends, and they slowly drifted apart. He held onto his bond with Monty as long as he could, but as they grew, Monty became more and more reckless and stepped up to more serious petty crimes, Raynor eventually stopped talking to him to. As years went by Raynor finally became an adult, and started flying as soon as he could, starting as a shuttle driver to other planets, and eventually hauling cargo by the time he was 21. During that time he met another, a beautiful human by the name of Camille, they began to date, and soon were engaged and then married. But all it takes is one day to ruin a lifetime of building, and that day came when he was 23. A message came through on his commlink, from a name he hadn't seen in years by the name of Monty Quid, asking if they could catch up at an old favorite restaurant in the Lower City. Raynor agreed, and the descent down really highlighted how blind children can be to the grime and grittiness of crime infested areas such as the Lower City of Coruscant. After this eye opening walk, he arrived and saw Monty for the first time in years, and boy had he changed. He had grown into a larger man, around 6'4", quite muscular and a lot more cleaned up than before. He said that he had found a legitimate business that helped him turn away from petty crime, and that he was stuck back on Coruscant, proceeding to ask Raynor if he could give him a flight to Coronet City on Corellia with some cargo he needed to get there. Though hesitant, Raynor was never one to turn down the request of an old friend, and agreed to fly him and his cargo. About halfway through the flight, they were stopped by an Imperial patrol, demanding to board and perform a random inspection of the ship. No stranger to these, Raynor began to prepare the ship to be boarded, but was suddenly thrown out of the pilot's chair by Monty, who then proceeded to dump the cargo into space, maneuvering the ship to block the view of it from the Imperial shuttle, but Raynor could see it clearly. The cargo that was from this "Legitimate Business" was nothing more than illegal spice. Upon the inspection being given the all clear and the patrol moving on, Raynor immediately turned to who he thought was his friend, as they both pulled their blaster pistols on each other. The air was tense, the two stood staring down each other's barrels, Raynor demanded an explanation. Monty lowered his heavy blaster and holstered it, sitting down and gesturing for Raynor to do the same. He explained that he never had the same luck Raynor did, and that he ended up going deeper into crime as his old friend got a job and moved up. Eventually, he tried to pull the wrong stunt on the right man, trying to mug a criminal smuggler. The woman apparently laughed in his face and instead of giving him his wallet, he gave him a job running illegal cargo. What he had told Raynor was *technically* true, he was given a job that turned him away from petty crimes, but instead to more serious ones. He explained that since he was forced to dump the cargo, he now needed to explain to his boss why he doesn't have it, and that he had already said that Raynor was his pilot, so he was already in too deep now. A flurry of emotions overwhelmed him, and what ensued was a blur. He was introduced to the ones he was delivering to, reprimanded for dumping cargo, and formally brought into the spice trade to pay off his debt. 2 years later, Raynor is now 24 and accepting of his new life, though he isn't pleased by it. He hasn't seen Monty since then, but that is what is best for the both of them, because another reunion would end poorly for the both of them.
