Lya Ulpta was born on into slavery on Corellia, where her mother worked as a house cleaner OR SOMETHING. MOTHER died of illness when Lya was 17, after which Lya escaped, taking some money she and her mother had earned from outside jobs, and fled to Scipio, where she was able to find some work. There she came in contact with a mysterious figure known only as "Fulcrum" who recruited her to the Rebellion, at which point she became a spy. After a small but successful mission, Lya rendezvoused with the Rebellion on Yavin IV shortly before the Battle of Scarif.

Lya Ulpta is a Twi'lek with pale blue skin, with tattoos on both her lekku and one on her right arm that continues on her right side. On her left shoulder is a large scar from SOMETHING, as well a scar under her left eye from the same incident. Her eyes are always rimmed by dark circles due to her high-stress life. Lya mostly wears blues and greys.
