Background

Tarn grew up on Corellia, and like most Corellian's he is infatuated with speed. However, he has always looked to the stars as an escape and the ultimate expression of freedom. When his peers were consumed with speeders and swoops, all Tarn could think about were starships. He took every opportunity to work towards his goal of piloting a spaceship. Every chance he got to get in some simulator time he took, any job that would take him into space and closer to piloting a ship was his.

Tarn's obsession with space led him to be in the right place at the wrong time, and being conscripted into the Imperial Navy. Tarn did not do well with the structured existence (he still refuses to call it a life) in the Imperial Navy. His natural resistance to authority made sure he would never be piloting any ship for the Imperials. Tarn eventually managed to get himself thrown out of military service, but a petty superior put him down for desertion. This was after the dishonorable discharge had been drawn up and submitted, but close enough in timing to cause confusion.

Tarn was forced to flee to the outer rim to escape execution for desertion. Since then, he has taken what jobs he can find that will keep him away from the Imperials and get him closer to his own ship. He is a skilled pilot who is beginning to understand the seedy underbelly on the fringe, but is still green beyond that.

Motivation

More than anything, Tarn wants a ship to call his own. He is a little more flexible on the actual ownership of said vehicle.

Tarn also yearns for the esteem of being a great ship's captain and earning the loyalty of his crew. To make this happen however, he will first need a ship.

Obligations

Criminal: (x obligation) Tarn spent time as a conscript of the Imperial Navy. At first he didn't mind, all he wanted to do was be able to fly a ship, any ship. When it became clear this was not in the cards that the Empire had dealt him, Tarn endeavored to free himself from Imperial service. He was eventually able to arrange his separation from the Imperial Navy, yet the details are still a little unclear as far as the Empire is concerned. Depending on which system you check, the cause of Tarn's separation is listed as either dishonorable discharge, or desertion, sometimes both in the same paperwork. Tarn has spent considerable time and effort trying to get the issue resolved, with little success. To this day, Tarn never knows if any interaction with Imperial agents will be met with scorn, or attempted imprisonment.

Favor: (10 obligation) Tarn owes favors to various local authorities and slicers he has asked to help resolve his "status" issues with the Imperial Navy. As he has had his status "corrected" on systems these officials and slicers have access to, it just makes it that much harder to actually sort out the truth.
