Background
CT-401 known to his squad as Joker was part of a very early batch of clones and had a brief but distinguished career. At the Battle of Geonosis he served under CT-411 “ponds” as part of Lightning Squadron, itself under the command of Mace Windu. During the battle he suffered a head wound, but declined treatment for it. He went on to serve with Jedi knight Sereen a togrutan on fact finding missions deep into separatist territory. On these missions they often pretended to be man and wife and an “understanding” eventually developed between them. Sadly, during a routine check up damage to his control chip from his injury in the Battle of Geonosis was discovered. The scarring that resulted made replacing the chip impossible. Rather than simply destroy him the attending physician chose to place him in cryogenic stasis. This was often done during the early years of the war in order to build up a “reservist” force in the event that a trooper surge was needed or subjects were needed for experiments. His commander and now lover, Jedi Knight Sereen, was told that his recall was the result of a classified fatal defect. This explanation predictably failed to satisfy and she spent the rest of her short life trying to discover what the defect was. Her investigation ultimately led to her death at the hands of Count Dooku.
Shortly before the destruction of the first death star CT401 was Awakened from his long sleep and sold as part of the Kaminoan’s liquidation of the clone project. Upon discovering that the Republic had become the Empire and that the Jedi Order had been destroyed he immediately fled in the vain hope of finding his Jedi love alive in the outer rim. His search goes on.
To support himself he joined a smuggling operation, initially taking a job as a hired gun for a Toydarian. In the course of this job he ends up killing a Togrutan man who relentlessly pursues their vessel across the outer rim only to discover at their destination that the man had been desperately trying to retrieve his daughter who would now be sold to Zygerian slavers. Upon discovering this he killed the Toydarian and took his ship along with his would-be merchandise. Unwilling to fess up to what he had done he lied to the Togrutan girl, claiming to be a bounty hunter paid by her father to help him find her and further claiming that the Toydarian had killed her father. He returns her to her mother and takes over his employer’s smuggling route, both to continue his search and to support his new wards.
Despairing over the hopelessness of his search he turns to alcohol, and is unable to pass up the opportunity to imbibe at every bar and tavern he encounters.
