Background
Hatched to a small family of Wind-worshipers on Arbooine, Volen Nix was born just before the clone wars began. As Arbooine was mostly ignored by the galactic republic, it wasn't until the scouting group sent to prepare the planet for Republic troops that Volen was noticed. The Jedi Seeker present on that mission took the Nestling from his family and ushered him away to begin training as a Jedi.
Volen serves his master dutifully as his Padawn Learner, and Loyally fights for the Republic.
Motivation
Mastery - Volen seeks to become the first true Wind Master in millennia, the stories of which filled his childhood with excitement. The Clone Wars offers him a means to practice and grow towards this end.
