Background

Zed grew up on the farthest reaches, a point far from the bright centre of the galaxy, Dantooine. the Co'linak were the only Bothans to have settled on Dantooine at the time and made their way as researchers of the local "Kath Hounds" and tending to a modest farm. Zed found this all incredibly boring. He found solace in the piloting of the family's speeder, the speed Zed was able to obtain while piloting it made him feel as if he was flying through the stars, away from Dantooine. As he grew, he noticed others on Dantooine shared his interest in speed and got involved in the local Dantooine speeder races. Right from the Outset, Zed had someone special. He was more daring than the other racers, and would fly a space between two cliffs others wouldn't dare, just to get the advantage. He did this every time with complete confidence, thinking he was just that good. Other would call it luck.
One day Zed noticed that those around him were profitting off his races through bets and saw a way to actually get off of Dantooine. He started reading is opponent's body language, the way they flew, and stepped out of racing to bet on the pilots he personally knew had the guts that day to win. That's when Zed started cleaning up.
He was able to buy a ticket off of Dantooine to Ord Mantel and continued his gambling ways in reading others to win them over on bets. He even began telling others to bet on a racer he knew would lose, in order to increase his pot at the end of the day. He did so one day with an Imperial Officer on leave, thinking the man was just another sucker. Zed told him to bet on the Golden Hawk, saying the Hawk couldn't lose, while Zed later put all his money on The Womp Rat. As fate would have it that day, the Officer saw Zed receiving his winnings after the Officer had just lost it all, the Officer realized he had been tricked and took revenge, by putting an arrest order on Zed for Rebellion. Zed fled capture from a squad of Stormtroopers just by the hair of his neck, and by hiding in a back booth of the Cantina. This is where he met a Rebel recruiter. The Recruiter heard Zed had sympathy for the Rebellion and had acted in their name, and offered him a place in the larger organization. Zed saw this as a way to save his hide, and said yes.

He's been with them since, his ability to read others giving him a great ability to out smart the enemy and plan around their deployments. Zed also found his skills as a cheat very useful in getting him where others can not. And as always, still loves a good gamble when he can get it.
