As a child Kaelen was discovered to be force sensative. The transport ship that was to take him along with other force sensative children from Umbara to Coruscant was attacked by Sith. After the Sith killed all the Jedi and crew aboard, they took some of the children to be trained at Korriban and killed the rest. Kaelen was one of those unfortunate enough to be taken for training.

Kaelen wants to be accepted as who he is, considering the dark side a part of him. He knows the Jedi and the Republic will never accept the dark side, and as such they will never accept him. He doesn't see how passion could ever be a bad thing, and he sees anger and hatred as natural emotions that one deserves the right to indulge every now and then. He doesn't expect the light-siders to ever understand. And he knows without their understanding and without their acceptance, the only way this can end is with the destruction of one or the other. He chooses to destroy, rather then be destroyed.

Kaelen Kol is an Umbaran. He stands roughly 6' tall. He has unkempt hair that appears to most silver in color. His eyes too appear this way. This silver color is unusual though, when seen out of the corner of the eye it seems hazy, as though a heat wave eminated from it. This is because the hair and eyes aren't actually silver, but ultraviolet. Their true color can only be seen by those who are able to see in the ultraviolet spectrum, such as other Umbarans. Aside from this, Kaelen is completely human in appearance. His skin while pale isn't sickly so, though that will undoubtedly change as his connection to the dark side grows. His face is unadorned with any blemish or scar, a result of his Umbaran heritage. His clothing is mostly various shades of black, such as an almost pitch black blue, or a likewise dark red, that only the sharpest of eyes might distinguish from the rest of his ebon clothing. Some bits of the black are laced with ultraviolet colors, silver to the non-umbaran, shimmering an intricate design. He is calm and quiet most of the time, but is prone to flashes of anger and hate that he lets build beneath the surface. He also has been known to be somewhat manipulative and charming when the occasion calls for it.
