Background
“Droi’ the GH-7 droid was created by Chiewab Amalgated Pharmaceuticals Company on the palnet Iakar for the purpose of contending with Industrial Automation’s ever successful 2-1B droid. Droi’s production was specifically assigned to serve the Galactic Republic as a field hospital diagnostician and surgeon for clones in the Battle of Genosis in 22 BBY. After the battle, Droi was stationed on Genoisis to act as a com link and interface droid detailer between engineers working to refit former separatists and CIS factories to the Republic's needs. During this time, Droi developed relationships with clone troopers and local genosians. Here, Droi was able to implement his translating abilities and expand his medical programming onto different species. Although Roi was created to serve the Galactic Republic, Droi’s programming possessed strong prohibitions against harming any organic life. This would often get Roi into trouble when he would hover outside of encampment lines to help treat Geonosians begging for food outside medial facilities. During this time in the Republic, Droi met and treated may different species and allies of the Republic that used Genoisis as a fueling station or meeting place.
In 21 BBY, Droi’s medical hospital during the 2nd battle of Genosis was overtaken by Separatist and Geonosian forces. During this invasion, Droi's patients were being killed on site by oncoming battle droids and Geonosians. This forced Droi to attack invading forces with supposed stun weapons given to him by injured clones. When Droi fired his blaster at a geonosian, he realized that the blaster was modified to kill only. After Droi killed the geonosian, something happened within Droi’s programming. He began glitching out when speaking and shut down to reset. During this time, Droi was set into some kind of hibernation setting that was within his code and could only be reset by being returned to the Chiewab Amalgated Pharmaceuticals Company. However, the Geonosians who looted the field hospital did not know this and decided to sell him to a Jawa trader who transported him to the nearby planet of Tatooine. There, the Jawas were able to access Droi’s coding and bypass his “hibernation” mode. When Droi woke up, he felt a sense of autonomy and self-awareness that was unknown to him. He could not diagnose himself and was having trouble analyzing what exactly changed in his code. After Droi was back to working, the Jawas sold him to the local crime lord Teemo the Hut in search of a medical droid to help treat Teemo’s agents and clean up the oil and mucous sludge left behind by Teemo’s body. For the first time in Droi’s life, he felt feelings of anger for being bought and sold as a slave. In fear of losing his life, Droi accepted his fate of working for Teemo but vowed to escape one day.
After 20 years as Teemo’s slave, Droi developed many relationships with bounty hunters and Teemo’s lackeys. One day, Droi met the Rhodian named Dharm Eene who was told to repair him after general wear and tear. From this, they developed a strong relationship. He had never had anyone to repair him. He had only repaired and healed others over the past 21 years. This reminded Droi of his times in the Galactic Republic's fleets and hospitals. From this, Droi grew angry and resentful for what happened to his friends back on Geonisis. Some time went by and one day while being repaired by Dharm, Droi met Vectratc who was in need of dire medical assistance. While Droi was healing Vectrarc in the infirmary, Dharm visited and began scheming how to escape Teemo. This was Droi’s chance and he wasn’t going to miss it. With a sarcastic overtone that he developed, Droi said, “about time.”
