Maxim Windcaster was born into a lower class family on the planet of Coruscant. However, after his mother died when he was only three years old, his father Cordane Windcaster, a jedi outcast, took him to a sparsely populated jungle region on Ryloth to train him as a jedi. Eventually Maxim grew to the point where Cordane revealed the true reason he had trained him: to help him defeat Quinlin Vos (for a less-than-personal matter). Maxim traveled with Cordane and eventually found his target when Maxim was twelve. But in the end Cordane fell to Quinlin, and Maxim was left with a scar over his permanently blinded left eye. Miraculously he managed to escape with his life, a burning hatred growing in him to one day return and avenge his father.

Maxim is more determined than ever to face Quinlin Vos after the death of his father. But the young jedi is also wise, remembering the words of his father when he was told to suppress his hatred and find his path in the force. As a colonist, Maxim journeys with his companions to find a peace in selflessness, hoping to eventually extinguish his hate. For now his greatest fear is turning to the dark side of the force.

The escape led Maxim to meeting a smuggler named Judias Veylo who was willing to take the young Windcaster under his wing, providing care for him as they traveled together throughout space. When Judias got caught up in his own work, however, he ultimately lost the ability to protect Maxim. On the planet Nal Hutta, Judias was taken away and Maxim was enslaved, helpless in captivity for several years until, at sixteen, Maxim was rescued during an invasion which took place in the palace. The invasion was held by the notorious bounty hunter Bacuur Orak and his charge, Maxim's old friend Judias. Despite being Bacuur's charge, Judias pleaded for his help in rescuing Maxim. For several years Maxim continues to accompany Bacuur and Judias, hiding his illegal jedi identity and searching for some kind of peace as he battles with his fear and hatred.

Maxim is friendly and charismatic, placing others far ahead of himself. He has a tendency of carelessness most prominently in battle. He is loyal and trusting of others, but he is careful not to fall into naivety. Maxim does his best to keep people close to him knowing that dark feelings will resurface if he is left to his own devices.
