Background
Jal Ha'ed has led a difficult life. As the middle child of 7, his family life rather chaotic. While his mother and father were loving and filled their family life with joy. His parents they were simple people and a not very adept at running the family restaurant business. His family slowly sank into debt and eventually, his His father, mother and six siblings were sold into slavery to pay off the family debts. While officially his family was only "indentured" workers, Only eight at the time Jal'Ha'ed was lucky. Jal was of slight build and small for his age he wasn't seen particularly useful at manual labor. Luckily he found a position as a page boy for Kol'uk Ha'Fan, an elder of his clan.
Kol'uk Ha'Fan was decadent and corrupt, but not particularly cruel. He took kindly to Jal'Ha'ed and began to have him help in business negotiations. Outwardly his role was to serve refreshments at business meetings, but in reality, he was the second set of eyes and ears for the Elder. Reporting back to the Elder all the little details of the elder's adversaries actions and reactions in a meeting. He became a master at noticing when people were bluffing or had some hidden motive.
Slowly as Jal Ha'ed grew up Kol'uk Ha'Fan began to reveal more of his business deals. Jal began to realize that his family misfortunes were less to do with the poor business acumen of his happy go lucky parents, and more to do with the corrupt practices of his clan. The wealthy clan members needed things for their children to do. It was easier to steal the business of middle or lower rank families than to strike out on a new business endeavor.
Jal hoped that it was not too late for his family. Slowly he began to collect evidence of Kol'uk's vast corrupt business empire. When he was 17, he finally approached the Imperial Assessments Bureau and presented his data. He had expected that Imperial Justice would be swift and might even win his family their freedom. Jal was Naive. The Area Commander used his data to destroy Kol'uk's business empire, but rather than returning the ill-gotten gains to the victims; the commander enriched his clan.
Jal was set free. But his family didn't gain their freedom with him. For his trouble, his own clan now hunts him. His betrayal of the clan will never be forgiven. He now realizes that it is every being for itself. The only way to be free is to be the one with his boot on anothers neck.

Description
Slight of build, it's easy to see that Jal has had a fairly easy life of little physical labor. While he's attractive Jal dresses to blend in and tries to not be the center of attention. He's used to being in a room and not being seen.
