Jace grew up the son of wealthy industrialists specializing in droid manufacturing. Brell Group ran an aggressive business known for cutthroat negotiations that often looked more like coercion. Business dealings were done with anyone willing to pay and profit was valued above most everything else. Jace grew up with a strong education with the resources at his disposal to chase his curiosities, he found himself drawn to the engineering challenges designing and modifying droids and other equipment with little concern of the ethics and regulations. The gear that violated laws usually posed the most unique and challenging tasks. As long as the problem was interesting, he was willing to pursue it.

With Jace’s designs, his family began to manufacture and sell illegal and unregulated combat droids. The family found buyers from the wealthy elite in need of protection on to high ranking capos of notable crime syndicates to wage gang war on their rivals and protect their stash houses. Unscrupulous dealing caught up with Brell Group and Jace’s parents when a deal that was being worked on for some time was actually being made with ISB agents posing as Rebels. Jace’s parents, nor Jace had no affinity or affection for the Rebel Alliance, they simply found someone willing to discreetly pay the price for the new droids. A sting operation was set up on Takodana where Jace’s parents were arrested and likely sent off to work on an Imperial prison planet somewhere. The ISB didn’t expect Jace to be present for the deal and he evaded arrest inadvertently by arriving to the deal late after an argument in Takodana Castle about technical minutiae with another patron. From nearby, he witnessed ISB agents taking his parents away in binders. Jace later went back to the cantina and bought travel off-world as the ISB impounded his family’s luxury ship.

Brell Group’s number two to Jace’s father was “Uncle” Forris. Forris managed to get a holomessage to Jace letting him know he knew about the ISB sting and that all of Brell Group’s assets were seized and a bounty was on both of their heads for conspiracy to arm terrorists and illegal weapons trade. Jace expects that Forris managed to stash a sizable nest egg for himself and has a faint suspicion that Uncle Forris might have tipped off the ISB in exchange for sharing intelligence on one of the crime syndicates.

Jace is now on the run from the Empire but still taking on opportunities to build and repair droids, illegal slicing and surveillance equipment for money to get by. While he doesn’t have the same lust for money his parents did, it did afford him equipment and toys to experiment with. Jace is trying to earn money while keeping a low profile.
