Personal Gear

Comlink - This piece of gear is used to communicate between other comlinks. The handheld versions are only viable for extreme distances on planets, reaching up to low orbit. However, long range versions can usually reach the entire planet in range. Comlinks are the most common communication devices in the galaxy. Small, convenient, and easy to use, they come in a variety of designs ranging from complex handheld devices that can transmit audio, video, and data to simple headset comlinks used to talk to nearby companions. Most are simple two-way devices that can transmit and receive to a single mated unit at relatively long ranges over land and even into low orbit, but there are models that can transmit to multiple users at once or network whole groups together on the same frequency. Larger, longer-range models are carried in a satchel or backpack and can reach across entire planets. Most comlinks, especially those made specifically for military or law enforcement use, can be encrypted for secure lines of communications. While they are largely foolproof, comlinks can be disrupted by certain terrain features, atmospheric disturbances, and deliberate signal jamming.

Holo-messanger - This is a small hightech piece of equipment which takes the comlink to a new level. It allows a holographic display to be sent along with the message, and may send a pre-recorded or continuous transmission. They have the range of a long range comlink. Small, complex devices roughly the size of a human hand, holo-messengers are used when a personal touch is needed in the sending of a message. Equipped with a small holographic display emitter, these devices can be used either to send a one-time recorded message or to act as a receiver and display device for holographic transmissions. When used, the messenger projects its hologram either directly over the user’s hand or anywhere he wishes up to a meter away. Holo-messengers are easily concealed and transported, and are often used to send and receive secret messages.

Tool Kit - Tool kits offer their users a wide variety of tools necessary for mechanical jobs. With the proper tools, there is little that a skilled and inventive technician can’t accomplish, given the time and circumstances. Tool kits allow mechanics and technicians to perform most mechanical checks to repair devices, as well as heal wounds on droids. Models Include: Regalis Engineering QuikFix 20-Piece Portable Tool Kit.

General Purpose Scanner - This is a relatively small piece of equipment used to identify and record a variety of data, such as detecting life-signs, heat signatures, radiation etc. They have a range up to 1.5 kilometres. Common scanners are usually small, handheld devices designed to sense and record a variety of data. Depending on the make and model, scanners can detect nearby life signs and heat signatures, different sources of radiation, the source and direction of different sounds, or any combination thereof. Some models scan in all directions, while others must be pointed in the desired direction for scanning. Some even have integrated metal detectors and the ability to intercept and record comlink traffic. Most scanners have an operational range of up to one and a half kilometers.
Models Include: Cryoncorp EnhanceScan General Purpose Scanner, Crozo Industrial Mineral Scanner, CUE GenScan.

Assets & Resources

Vicious:
When this weapon scores a Critical Injury or Hit, the character adds ten times the Vicious rating to the Critical roll. With Vicious 3, for example, the victim adds + 30 to his Critical Injury or Hit result.

Stun:
Some weapons deal Stun damage instead of regular damage. In this case, the weapon deals damage as strain instead of wounds. This damage is still reduced by a target’s soak.

Disorient:
A weapon with Disorient can daze an opponent. When Disorient is triggered, the target is disoriented (see page 224) for a number of rounds equal to the weapon’s Disorient rating. (A disoriented target adds 1 setback dice (■) to all skill checks he performs.)

Accurate:
Accurate weapons are easier to aim or wield, whether through design or technology. For each level of this trait, the attacker adds 1 boost dice (blue) to his attack dice pools while using this weapon.

Critical Injuries & Conditions

Background

L8 served as a holonet engineer with the designation HL-1E (affectionately known as Holly). His main function was to spread Rebellion propaganda for Saw Gerrera's extremists. During the fall of Jedha a small group of rebels managed to escape with HL-1E. Dismayed by the loss of Saw Gerrera, these rebels replaced some of HL-1E's advanced holotech programming with combat proficiency. They used Saw's dying message as the droid's prime directive "save the rebellion, save the dream".

These rebels changed HL-1E's designation to L8-GR8-SG1 to honour both Saw and the Rogue One rebels. Shortly after the battle of Scarif, L8 was separated from the rebels who had given him new purpose and set out to find like-minded individuals who were capable of assisting his prime directive.

Motivation

COMFORTABLE WITH TECH

Many of the worlds and cultures across the galaxy have a high level of technological sophistication. Droids and the HoloNet are tools that many sentients use on a daily basis. Starships and repulsor lift craft are a common sight on many worlds, and characters are likely comfortable using these fantastic devices. Most adult individuals from these sorts of worlds enjoyed an education that included a solid grounding in engineering and the hard sciences. This level of technological familiarity is considered the norm for the civilized galaxy.

Most of the planets from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim fall into this category. Even frontier and colonial worlds tend to have denizens familiar with standard galactic technologies, even if said technologies are rare or unavailable. These planets are typically a part of wider galactic society. Citizens of these worlds who wish to avoid technology must make a deliberate effort to do so.

PRAGMATIC POWER

Characters who recognize their Force potential do not always readily acknowledge its spiritual associations. Some see their powers and talents as tools they can use to advance their lives or accomplish their goals. This may help them to be more successful in their career of choice, enabling them to transform the world in a way that fits with their personal philosophies.

Many deny the fundamental goodness or evil of the Force, insisting that consequences for success and failure are far more important than any spiritual elements. Such characters are no more or less likely to make choices or perform actions that could be classified as “good” than those that could be classified as “evil.” However, in their minds, their preference for a certain moral choice is independent of the powers they wield. This can prove problematic if, for example, a character believes his righteous anger is a reasonable motivator for his actions. Such a character may constantly flirt with the dark side of the Force and never realize it.

Learning or denying Force philosophies and histories invariably plays into the stories of characters from this background. Eventually, the character likely learns of the truth of the Force. Whether he embraces this knowledge or denies it and continues on his chosen path can prove to be a very interesting opportunity for character development.

FLEEING THE EMPIRE

The Empire hunts down Force users diligently and enthusiastically. The character may have betrayed his affinity to the Force in some way, perhaps by anticipating someone’s thoughts or saving someone’s life by stopping a crashing speeder with his mind. Whatever the cause, the character is now hunted by Imperial agents and must flee his former life or be destroyed.

Morality

Description

Other Notes

Personality Traits
Ambivalent towards life, both organic and inorganic. Can be swayed to action or inaction with logical reasoning that follows primary programming.

Ideal
Programmed to follow directive "save the rebellion, save the dream". The ambiguity of this motivation can lead to seemingly chaotic behaviour.

Bond
Was once well known for spreading propaganda for Rebel Extremists. Continues to support the rebellion in a more covert capacity.

Flaw
Not always able to act with moral considerations. Does not understand regret, only sees changing variables.
