Was in service to a diplomat before the creation of the empire and when the republic fell he was separated from his master and wound up serving as an interpreter and knowledge-base for smugglers who worked to get people out of the core of the galaxy and into the fringes. Eventually he outlived his usefulness with the smugglers and they left him alone on a planet in the outer rim where he's been wandering ever since.

B1-NG0, formerly under the employ of smuggglers operating under the name Qwo'teek Freight and Shipping, aided in a narrow escape from an Anzati assassin employed by rival smugglers. After their location was discovered by the assassin and being hunted for nearly a day, B1-NG0 and the smugglers managed to give him the slip for a moment. Knowing his non-droid companions couldn't possibly hide from the assassin, he devised a plan to pass his group off as a nomadic people of the planet they had been unloading their cargo on by disguising the smugglers and posing as their interpreter. The ploy worked, but before the smugglers were able to get off-world the assassin was back on their trail and preparing to intercept their escape. Luckily, B1-NG0's aptitude for astrogation enabled the smugglers to take a much faster route through the asteroid field surrounding the planet, finally shaking the assassin off their tail.
