Background
Born to a Zabrak colony in the Outer Rim, Vabri didn't have long to have a normal life before her planet was embroiled in war. The tensions around the colony proved too much for many of the families there including Vabri's, so they elected to board a colony ship to find another home.
The search for a planet suitable for the community was difficult, and after several years, plans were made to continue living on the colony ship indefinitely. This was contentious for most of the community, but for young Vabri, she barely knew any different. Life continued as normally as it could for the community over the next few years, traveling around the galaxy trying to find a home.
Eventually Vabri's horns began growing in, meaning it was time for her rite of passage. As per Zabrak tradition, this meant receiving her facial tattoo. Her brother was given the honor of applying the tattoo. Part way through the ceremony an explosion rocked the ship. Marauders were attacking. Vabri and her family rushed to escape the attack. In the ensuing chaos, she was separated from her family.
The colony ship was a lost cause. There was no coming back from the attack so the colonists started piling into escape pods. Vabri was piled into a pod with a bunch of strangers and before she could protest, the pod was launched.
The escape pod was adrift in space for little over a day before it was picked up by a passing vessel. The cargo ship agreed to carry them to the next planet, which happened to be Tattooine. After they were all unloaded, many of the Zabrak went their own ways. Although Vabri tried to follow some of the groups, none of them would have her, worrying about their own family's well being. Vabri was alone.
She wandered the streets of her city trying to stay alive. Eventually, she was taken in by a benevolent mechanic who agreed to take her in if she helped him around the shop. As the years passed, she became very proficient in mechanics and carried a bit of renown in the city.
She felt removed from the place, though. Her life was with her family, not here. She promised that she would one day go out in search for her parents and her brother, who she knew were still alive. She felt she wasn't a true Zabrak until she accomplished this task. So she shed her old name and took on the name Womp Rat -- a nickname her benefactor had given her -- as a show of determination for her mission.
