Gulomi was a businessman with a mining and shipping company in the outer rim before the battle of Yavin. His family had ties to the company and was more or less safe from imperial subjugation due to the companies influence and proximity to the outer rim.
Gulomi hated the empire for the subjugation of his species and exploit of his home world but felt there was little if anything he could do. once news of a rebellion spread Gulomi almost left his job right then and there, but after a moment of though he put his money on the rebels being crushed quickly like every other uprising.
after the battle of Yavin Gulomi did in fact leave his job, the destruction of the death star was the major victory he needed to see befor he could go all in.
